Carnegie-Stout was recently remodeled to its former glory and the job was well done. This is a beautiful building! If you are looking for historical information, walk up the steps into the "old/new" section and prepare yourself for great help. Microfilm of old newspapers of the city back to the 1850s are available along with a fantastic vertical file of information. There are hundreds of books about Dubuque and Iowa too. The staff will guide you along and answer questions all day long. They are wonderful.

This beautiful and historic building houses an excellent collection, provides great service, and offers alot of special events. We attend movie nights, book discussion groups, and classes on tech devices. The Ancestry database is great for amateur geneologists, and Universal Class offers interesting free online learning opportunities. They also have programs allowing limited music downloads and a good range of e-books. Various reading programs incentivize both kids and adults. Computers and wireless network are available for those without internet access. I also enjoy their DVD movie and TV series selections.

Nice library, but I took a child there recently and we couldn't get anyone to help us with a tour or locate what we had in mind

This is a great place to find any media you are looking for, not just books. There is a surprising amount of dvd's and tv serieses to rent. They also have a friendly site where you can hold books, manage your materials and see what's new.

I regularly visit thr Carnegie-Stout, it is one of the finest public libraries in the Midwest. I find working in the restored original library uplifting and inspirational.

Many of these older libraries are being replaced by multimedia extravagances. This library has been preserved both inside and out and is obviously a cornerstone of the urban neighborhood where it is situated. It is a great place to catch one's breath.

The Carnegie-Stout Library is a full-service modern library, tastefully restored within the historic library building originally funded by the Carnegie program. The physical collection of books, cds, dvds and other materials is good, in terms of quantity, quality, display and layout. The spaces are bright and comfortable, and there are stately quiet places to read and study, as well as social areas for groups to meet. The kids area has kid-scale seating for kids to spend quality time with family and friends accessing library materials. The library programs are wide in diversity, from book clubs and educational classes to kids day programs, movie showings, and tours. The library has most modern electronic features, including high speed internet, computers for use, and ability to check-out e-books on any device.

Wonderful renovation honored the best of the past with the technology and services of a modern library. The art and local artist exhibits were outstanding. The adult, teen and children's sections were superb. The library has great energy, light, and ease of navigation.
