To go on this trail you will need to cross the Polecat Creek, which even late in the season can be fast moving and fairly deep. We went in late Aug., 2011, and the water was up to our thighs (we are about average height). I didn't want to get my hiking boots (which were not necessary on this rather flat trail) wet, so I went bare foot to cross the creek, and it proved to be difficult, because the rounded rocks on the bottom were rather slippery. But even flip-flops help; it would be even better if you have hiking sandles or watershoes. We carried our 4-year old over, but she did dip her feet at the shallower part near the bank, and she liked it. We encountered only 1 other group (2 ppl) while we were there, and I enjoyed the solitude.
