It is a quick stop - take a few photos if you want. Then you can go back to your traveling. Take Exit 329 on Interstate 80. This 60 foot pyramid is very visible, since there are no trees nearby. It stands alone. It was built by the Ames Brothers - Oliver & Oakes. You will see their faces the monument Rd. It is near Vedauwoo (same exit). We saw pronghorn on the road to the monument. It is a short drive.

Not far off I-80, the monument to two brothers part in railroad expansion, sits on plains with quite a view. South of the highway and go on dirt road about two miles. It can be a short stop to see and read a few markers. Historical. Really cold in winter. I got nice pictures of snow patches around it. The highest point of the highway is actually down the road west at I believe over 8600'. A nice rest area is there with tribute to President Lincoln, the highway being named for him. The rest area has indoor viewing and restrooms. A large bust of Lincoln looks out over the highway.

This is a quiet and unassuming tourist stop. Be sure and take time out to go see it. I feel it pays due honor and was very well done. Tasteful.

IF you are going to Veaduwee this monumet is 1 mile accrosse the I-80. There is one mile dirt road to get there. It is nice view and nice monumet. Along way back we saw heard prong horn deer. great sight. takes about 45min total. There are no bath rooms or any services. it is out in middle nowhere. 10 min drive to Veaduwee where thear are picnic restrooms and camping.

Placed at the highest point on the transcontinental railroad in honor of Oakes and Oliver Ames,this large pyramid doesn't provide much for signage at the actual site and absolutely nothing on I-80 will direct you to this.It is neat to be located at a significant point on the transcontinental railroad, but sadly the tracks are about four miles south so don't expect to see any train activity.To find it, follow the signs for Vedauwoo on I-80 (exit 329) and then turn onto Monument Road (gravel) and travel for about 2 miles.

While I loved Ames Monument and thought it was beautiful in the sunset. It is not in Buffalo, it is in the Buford area.

Wir dachten, dass dies das Lincoln Memorial ist.So wagten wir uns über die staubige Strasse ins "Nichts".Sehr windig und außer dem Monoliten weit und breit eigentlich nur Natur.
