Three of us visited on a cool and somewhat wet Sunday afternoon. The tour is under cover so weather does not stop the tour. Park and walk through the gate to the Gift Shop area for the tour. All wolves and wolf/dogs looked well cared for and pens were well kept. We came at feeding time and they all "wolfed down" every bite of their all meat meal. Behavior was interesting to observe during the feeding. They have many volunteers and all are well trained on how to safely care for the wolves, part wolves and dogs that were labeled as wolves. It is illegal to own wolves or part wolves unless you are licensed and registered with the State of Texas. Keeping the volunteers safe as well as the safety of the animals was key throughout the explanation of what it takes to volunteer. Our tour guide was informative and answered all of our questions. Two wolf/dog ambassadors were allowed to walk past us, sniffed each person, then we were allowed to pet them. Well worth the visit. The sanctuary functions on donations so please give what you are able.

My husband and I learned a lot about wolves and wolf dogs during this visit. The wolves and wolf dogs are well cared for by dedicated volunteers. We were there for feeding time and watching the behaviors during this time was very interesting. Visitors aren't allowed to touch the wolves but there is a well socialized wolf dog (Tala) that we were able to touch. Very good demonstration in comparing a 'wolf like' dog's behavior with a wolf dog's behavior when interacting with visitors. It was interesting how nearly each wolf/wolf dog has a companion very carefully selected to share their space. Understanding each animal's dominance or submissive behavior was critical to keeping the peace. Very interesting visit.

Very informative. Staff were very knowledgeable and very well organized. Nice ride out to sanctuary. Very clean santuary and the animals seem very well cared for. Only a donation is requested. Well worth the visit. I learned alot.

Interesting - guaranteed to change your viewpoint of wolves. Don't like to see them penned up but they are safe

Wow! Did we ever learn a lot about wolves and wolfdogs! So thankful we were able to get a last-minute appointment (DO CALL in advance). Our guide knew sooo much and shared it with us. This attraction is geared more to teens and adults....kids got bored and fussy quite quickly. If you want to learn more about wolves...put this on your agenda when you are at or near Lake Conroe.

An awesome stop if you are on the way to the Renaissance Fair. It is kind of a far drive from Houston, but well worth the visit! The staff there are very nice and I got some amazing pictures. They are closed on Mondays and Fridays and they suggest you call ahead for a tour. 936-597-WOLF (9653). Jean, the founder, is a very interesting woman. I could sit there for hours just talking to her! Be sure to stop by and support her heartfelt work in helping to save these beautiful creatures. There is a suggested $5 donation per person.

Can't help falling in love with these wonderful creatures each has a story of how they came to St. Francis Sanctuaryenjoyed spending some time there & think everyone will too.they don't charge a fee but a donation is very welcome to help with their care

We were visiting friends in the area and took our daughter to the sanctuary. The people were fantastic, really helpful and dedicated to their work. The wolves were impressive and the entire experience left us feeling a bit awed and honored to have been able to do it.

I love to visit the wolfs knowing that they are safe from abuse. They would be dead if not for all the volunteers at the Sanctuary. You need to call them and make an appointment to visit. Enjoy
