Definitely worth a visit! The newly renovated Center in the Square has something for everyone. The beautiful aquariums in the lobby are fun for kids and adults! The butterfly garden in the Science Museum is wonderful and the rooftop garden and patio provides a unique new view of the city.

Thank you for your kind words, Mark. Note that we also are the home to the Harrison Museum of African American Culture. We hope you will come back to visit us again!

It is so good to hear you enjoyed your chilly winter visit to Roanoke where you shopped and dined downtown and in the City Market. We are especially happy that you came inside the atrium of Center in the Square to warm up and visit our free aquariums. We hope you will come back soon and add a visit to one of the three museums housed in our signature downtown building, or perhaps see a play at Mill Mountain Theatre.

What a place for everyone! The three museums each hold treasures for young and old. The aquariums on the first floor and the open 6th floor rooftop are free to the public, but don't miss the wonderful Butterfly Garden at the Science Museum.

Really enjoyed shopping and eating our way along the Center in the Square in Roanoke in August with my two friends. Lots of interesting shops where you can take a break from the big-box stores.

We are sorry you did not feel safe during your visit to downtown Roanoke. Our beautiful signature building next to the Market Square downtown houses three museums and a theatre along with our atrium aquariums and rooftop observation decks. We have a full-time security guard stationed in our atrium lobby for the safety of our guests. Visitors should remember that our museums and building close at 5 pm every day as do many of the downtown shops. However, restaurants and nightspots are still open. As in every small city, visitors should take normal precautions, but it is very safe here. If you want to experience downtown Roanoke when it is bustling with activity, come on a Saturday afternoon when all the museums, shops, sidewalk city market vendors, and restaurants are open and filled with people.

This is great advice for visitors to downtown Roanoke. If you want to take advantage of the wonderful shops or visit one of the three museums in Center in the Square, the Taubman Museum of Art, the O. Winston Link Museum, or the Transportation Museum, keep in mind that most close by 5 pm. Restaurants do stay open, and I am told that Roanoke has more restaurants per capita than any other city in Virginia. Many of the restaurants in downtown Roanoke have outdoor cafe-style dining along the sidewalks or in courtyards or rooftop decks!

This place has a GORGEOUS roof top garden full of succulents and a gold fish pond. Excellent views around the City out to the mountains. I could imagine this as a fantastic space for a wedding reception, or major part/charitable event. I really loved this. The downstairs jellyfish tanks were a lot of fun. An excellent addition to this fine city.

This complex has lots of things to do to on a rainy day or a sunny day. The Science Museum is great. The History Museum is small but does a great program at Christmas with Santa and sing-alongs. Everything is this complex is neat and exciting. Check out the roof if you get a chance very neat. You can see the Butterfly habitat for the museum from above.
