Allow a couple of hours to tour this museum. It is really interesting, outsider art displayed alongside of more traditional pieces.Lots of Mississippi artists. Several Eudora Welty photographs.

This museum hosts exhibits you won't find in other cities. It is always a good idea to check the website regularly to see what is coming up and make plans for a trip to Jackson!

This is one of our favorite places. For a medium sized city, the Museum gives us so many cultural opportunities that you would not normally expect!

My son & I were in Jackson overnight on our way to Oxford. He is a sophomore in college majoring in Art History so I thought this would be a good stop. Having just been on a school trip to Chicago a couple of weeks before, he wasn't too sure. However, we were both glad we made the time for this. The museum is wonderful. The traveling exhibit of Robert Henri's work was informative & the paintings were beautiful! The permanent exhibit of Mississippi works was equally impressive. Our favorites were the black & white photographs taken by Eudora Welty. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Get here as soon as you can. The travelling Civil Rights Exhibit is so brilliantly done we wish every single American (of any age) could experience it. The entire museum is surprisingly well curated and for a small city this is a wonderful find and a must see if you are in town. A lovely museum café, fantastic gift shop filled with local art and the kindest museum staff we have ever experienced anywhere.

This is a great stop for kids and adults. Most of it is free , a minimum charge is for special exhibits. The current one is of picture during the civil rights a very moving exhibit. Overall , it is a cultural drink for the artist soul.

found the exhibits fascination - well worth a visit . There is also a very reasonable café for light lunches , snacks, or coffee & a lovely garden to eat if the weather is fine. The gift shop was a little diasppointing - no 'tasteful ' bags or pens for sale - easy things to pack in a suitcase!!!

My wife and I have been members of the Museum of Art since shortly after we returned to Jackson in 1967. We have spent many happy hours at the museum, and have seldom missed a special show there. One of my favorite permanent exhibits is the small pre-Columbian artifacts near the gift shop, which was donated by a great Mississippi collector, The occasional exhibits of Mississippi artists and photographers are wonderful. The Theora Hamblett exhibit was a favorite of ours, since we knew Miss Hamblett, the "Mississippi Grandma Moses." She was a genius as a primitive painter. We are familiar with most of the New York art museums, which we have visited many times, as well as those in many other cities and a good many countries. Our Museum isn't the Metropolitan, but it's very good for a small city in a small state.
