Was passing through on business trip with the family and stumbled upon this museum. Was so glad we stopped there! It was very informative and how can you not help but love Jim Henson's Muppet's? Was able to spend some time talking to the lady that worked there and she was wonderful and full of interesting stories! One of a kind experience.

While traveling the Blues Highway (US Hwy 61) south from Memphis we thought we would look at some murals that were to be found on some of the buildings in this small community. What we didn't know was that Leland was the boyhood home of Jim Henson and that there is center established to preserve, and tell about all things Muppet! Such a joyful, uplifting experience to visit here and tour the exhibits that commemorate the life and work of this creative artist.

Many people do not know that Jim Henson grew up in Leland, MS along the banks of Deer Creek. His characters were based on animals and friends during his childhood years. This museum is a story of his life and his characters and is well worth the visit. Located right off Highway 82 and a must see!

Museum is small with a few displays and lots of photos. The "curator" Dorothy could tell you anything you wanted to know about Jim. It is well worth the side trip for any Muppets fan.

It's a room and a half exhibit. Other than getting your picture taking with a giant Kermit, there's not much here. There is a room full of Muppet toys, most look like they came from garage sales though. And then there's the over priced gift shop.We were traveling the Blues Trail and stopped in, we should have skipped it. Our total visit time was less than 15 minutes, and only because the lady running it wouldn't stop talking.

Hit the breaks right after you cross the river or you'll miss this little gem ! Its located at Deer creek where Jim Henson lived and played as a kid. We were lucky and spoke with the lady who is the founder of this museum. She knows everything from Jim Henson and his career as creator of the Muppets and Sesamestreet. Lots of pictures, old puppets and advertising and of course a little shop with Muppet and Sesamestreet items. Good place to take a break from your travels along the Hwy 61. Entrance is free, donations appreciated

I adore the Muppets and Kermit has been my hero since childhood. So driving from Vicksburg to Memphis on the Blues Trail this is a must stop. The museum is small but right on the creek where Jim Henson grew up and dreamed up Kermit. If you go you must have Dot, the local lady who runs the museum, give you the tour. She is fantastic and her stories are wonderful. You really get a special feeling for Jim Henson's boyhood and his love of Leland throughout his life. It's free too! Seeing the original Kermit from the Muppet Movie was special to a fan like me. Afterwards go "up river" and see the Rainbow Connection bridge!

It is small, but had a descent amount of displays. If you love the Muppets, then I would recommend checking it out. Cool giant Kermit to take a photo with.

FYI, this is the same as the "Birthplace of Kermit the Frog Exhibit" that has its own listing on TripAdvisor. So TA needs to merge the two at some point. On a whim, my wife and I recently stopped by the "Birthplace of the Frog." Jim Henson spent his childhood years living in Leland and the Delta is said to have been very influential to his creations. It is a small, roadside museum with several glass cases of puppets, including a visiting exhibit from "The Song of the Cloud Forest." The walls are lined with Muppets/Jim Henson memorabilia, and there is also an adjacent room filled with Muppets collectibles. Finally, they have a large Kermit the Frog for picture taking. A fun way to spend an hour!
