This is an historic part of K.C. There's a few places to eat there, and Pierponts I think is one of the best. The displays change from season to season, and right now giant insects are being shown. The Crown Center area is loaded with displays, so when you get tired of seeing the stuff at Union Station, walk across on the overhad walkway to Crown Center.

Dined at Lydia's just north of Union Station in a converted warehouse district. Great service and excellent food. Reservation recommended. If you haven't been there before, give it a try. I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience.

Cant believe how many activities are in this building! So many events for all ages. Beautiful building.

We've been here several times for different events. At Christmas time the station is all decked out for the holidays and looks magnificent. The train displays are like no other. There is something for everyone to enjoy. We went to a train exhibit one time and my son and I were taken back in time. It's a beautiful place, rich in history.

This station was saved from demolition in the late '90's. It is an architectural marvel of it's day. During WWII a train left this station every 10 minutes and it's waiting room could hold 10,000 people! I was there to see the model railroad exhibit. It's one of the best! The building also houses multiple restaurants, a post office, a science museum and other travelling exhibits. It's a must see when in KC!

I was looking forward to visiting the planetarium but got there 3 minutes too late! Bad planning on my part. Would like to visit again.

This is an amazing gem of architecture that has been re-purposed to continue providing value to the city. For tourists though, it is very confusing. The place is understandably massive. There isn't a "front desk" when you go in, so we were not sure where to go. The actual building is free for anyone to roam about and take in the exhibits, or art that is currently being displayed, but the Science Museum and traveling exhibits do charge admission. Advanced purchase of tickets may be helpful depending on the time of your visit. We found the information desk, but no one was there at that time. We wanted to see the traveling Egypt exhibit from the Smithsonian. From the main floor, we could not even see any signs to lead us to the right area. Thankfully, the friends we were meeting were from the area and told us where we could meet them when we called them. More signage would be very helpful! The traveling exhibit was incredible. The next day, we came back for the Science museum. This one is a little easier to find from the main area, and that day, the information desk was also staffed should we have had any further problems finding our way around. Tickets to that museum have to be purchased from a kiosk in the gift shop and are doled out in time blocks. Had we known this, we might have purchased them online beforehand. The only tickets available were for 2 hours later in the day, but the man at the ticket counter let us right in. That experience was a little disconcerting. The kids had a great day in the Science museum.Over the weekend, we spent almost 8 hours exploring the 2 exhibits. We had coffee from the little coffee shop, and took the skywalk over the Crown Center for lunch. I wouldn't say that Union Station is the attraction, unless you are a railcar buff, but the Science Museum and traveling exhibits make it worthwhile.

This beautiful 1914 building was once the hub for passenger train traffic in Kansas City, and still serves Amtrak travelers. But its real appeal is its magnificently preserved and restored architecture--three 3500-pound chandeliers suspended 95 feet above the rotundra beneath a lovely ceiling. The station also houses good restaurants amd the wonderful Science City museum, and is connected via skybridges to the nearby Crown Center complex. A true Kansas City landmark.
