We're lucky to have such an extensive urban trail in Lansing, which also has most sections plowed throughout the winter. You can pick up the trail right by Michigan State and get a solid 20 mile run in on it. Its well cared for, and with only a couple of exceptions shielded from the city (meaning, its a beautiful view). there are many spurs to hop on/off the trail. And the trail winds through the zoo, around a beautiful park (hawk island), by the science museum and through downtown. What more could you ask for in an urban trail?

The River Trail has had a few improvements since I was last on it. There are new paths to explore and some of the areas have been re-done. Lansing is really trying to get people out to enjoy nature and some exercise.

Great team building sport! Coaches and staff kept the event moving. The weather could have cooperated a bit more but that is life in the outdoors!

Just started waling with my daughter here, and the scenery always changes. It provides a safe place to walk and check out the scenery and the town, it does have smelly river moments but that pales compared to the River trail.

Great for biking, rollerblading and walking. Our family uses River Trail all the time. It is also a good route to get to area parks without using your car.

Not enough time to see it all. Will go back. I like to compare places and events and activities and environment.

Excellent trail any time of year. Walk, run, bike from Old town to MSU. Free. Follows river, passes thru downtown and Potter Park Zoo.

I've lived in Lansing for the better part of my life, and have only been a runner now since 2005. Now that I have two Marathons, a dozen 1/2 marathons and too many 5Ks to count, the one thing I know I can do to get the mileage in and not have to worry about traffic is the River Trail. There are plenty of places to park both in the city and in outlying areas where you can access the trail with ease. Right now my favorite place to park is behind the 7-11 on Jolly and Aurelius road in Lansing (there's a little park there, the name is escaping me). I can loop out to MSU if I want, or run right into the heart of Lansing. Spring and winter can be a bit DICEY, especially if we've had an especially wet spring. The trail, given it's name and proximity to the Grand River can (and does) flood into the trial. Crews are good about signage. Winter can be interesting, but I've found the trail is mostly cleared (from the hundreds of runners who hit the trail every day), only make sure to have your yak-trax on to save yourself from ice.If you are visiting the area and need to get a run in, the River Trail is the BEST place to start.

The Lansign River Trail is an excellent paved recreational and commutiong trail through the heart of the city. The south extension to Jolly Road is particularly scenic. Looking forward to future connections and extensions!

I love this trail; it is 14 miles in length and i like to walk, run, cycle, and sometimes roller-blade. I, like many others, also use this as a useful commute for work or school since it is so long. It's also beautiful! There are lots of trees, and some wildlife, as well as other people enjoying the trail. So come and check it out and see what you can gain from the experience!
