Very clean and safe park. I've camped here with family many times and it's become a tradition. Facilities are clean and there is ample parking. Hiking trails are excellent as well.

Facility has excellent features: camping, swimming, hiking trails, picnic and reunion facilities. On any given day during summer months, one can find people visiting from many other states, but it is particularly a draw for locals, who want a nice place to gather, swim and eat in comfortable atmosphere.

Love going out to do some walking and hiking. Always a beautiful park. The park has a pool with concession stand,campgrounds, picnic areas spread out through the park & grills. They have a craft show in July. Love going to that. Great crafts and good food. Creek for the family to walk in & play in. Swings throughout the park. Ranger station. OK bathrooms. Appalachian Trail goes through the park. Close to Gettysburg. Just a beautiful place to spend some time. with friends & family.

We mainly visit Caledonia State Park for hiking. Several trails wind though the mountains, and make a great way to spend an afternoon. We prefer the more difficult trails that go to up the mountain-sides, but some easier trails are also available for a nice stroll. One trail uses part of the Appalachian trail as well. At some points, you are fully immersed in the woods and can no longer hear traffic or civilization. Very nice.There is a swimming pool for the summer-time, (for a fee) and it's not bad. I've gone there once and it was nice and refreshing. Large enough and always looks very clean. The changing room/bathroom isn't anything spectacular, but it could be worse. They have a snack-bar, but again, nothing special. I've never camped here, so I cannot comment on that. Caledonia is also a wonderful place for a family picnic or gathering. Lots of tables available throughout the area, many beside the creek that winds through the park. That can mean fun in the water for kids (and adults)! Plenty of parking, too.I think it's a great place for those living around the area. Provides numerous activity choices and a fair number of hiking trails. Great for families, friends, or couples.

We camped here the weekend after Labor Day. It was quiet, but that is probably because it was after "season".The good: nice, level sites, good for tenting. Only a few sites would be good for larger campers, so be aware of what you are booking when you book. Absolutely fabulous trails, including a section of the Appalachian Trail. The trails are well maintained and beautifully scenic. Great picnic areas, with lots of grills. Nice swimming pool, open Memorial Day to Labor Day, but looked like a great place to spend a hot summer afternoon. Nice look back at history to when Thaddeus Stevens had his iron works. Close to Gettysburg, easy drive to the town, yet far enough away to get away from the touristy stuff. The bad. The bathrooms. The shower houses have twisty knobs that you have to hold open to get water. It is very awkward to hold the knob open with one hand and attempt to wash yourself with the other. My sister rigged up a cord in one of the stalls so we could tie the knob open and have water the entire time. We did see a cleaning crew around in the morning though, so these dated facilities are cleaned as best they can be at least once a day. They just need an update and some nicer plumbing. They had hot water, though, which was nice. I wasn't totally disappointed, because I know I am camping and "roughing it" but I have seen better shower houses. Also, no wood was available for sale in the park, which I have seen I other state parks. We had to drive down the road a bit to find someone selling wood out of their driveway. They should have a little shed with some wood for sale, like Cook Forest, Clear Creek, and Ohiopyle parks have. We would camp here again. It is a lovely place with all the rugged rustic charm we love in a State Park. It is beautiful, with hiking ranging from flat and easy to uphill and challenging. Take your time and check it out.

While we had a great time during 2014 Labor Day weekend, mostly due to company, I have to say that I have never seen worse facilities in my camping experience. Bathrooms and showers looked like they were build 50 years ago and have not been touched since. The paint was peeling inside, the facilities were dirty and smelly.The campsites themselves are ok, but too close to the road for my liking. A bigger road nearby provided plenty of motorcycle rumble at all times of the day.The park (or maybe just our sites 21,22,23) have a lot of spiders as well.The nearby lake (small) is a fun lake to fish. Hiking is OK too.Because of the poor facilities I put this park on my DO NOT RETURN list.

This was our first time at Caledonia State Park. The park office was beautiful and modern. But the rest of the campgrounds were not as well maintained. Our campsite was nice, but the pad for the campers was small. The fire ring was positioned on a corner, so you couldn't make a circle around the ring, just a small half circle. The bathrooms need to be updated. The showers were very old, you had to hold the water on while trying to shower. On the positive side, the rangers were nice. They let us pull another picnic table over to our site for more seating room. The hiking trails were great and not too difficult. The location of the campground is good for access to Gettysburg.

This historic park is situated along Conococheague Creek, and hats off to PA Parks here: you're allowed to get in the creek. Pretty much anywhere you want. (this is in sharp contrast to a neighboring state where parks are regulated to the Nth degree) Picnic tables and parking are ample, family gatherings are frequent, no one messes with your stuff as there's plenty of space to share, and in case playing in the creek isn't quite enough for the kids, there's a big pool. A couple of camping loops there, one on fairly steep terrain and another that's somewhat flatter. Quiet and well-maintained, and some buildings are dated in that funky kind of way that lots of PA parks are ;) (To be fair, the ranger station is quite new and laid out well for those of us towing a camper) The staff in the ranger station was also great. I like a lot of PA Parks, and can't wait to get back to this one.

We have camped at Caledonia 3 times in the past. It is located right along Route 30 and a few miles down the road from Gettysburg. It is an older campground- I can remember my grandmother telling me of when she camped there. The bathhouses need some TLC. They have nice hiking trails. The swimming pool can be crowded because it serves the campground and the local area. The campsites we have reserved in the past were a decent size. We never thought we were crowded. Some of the sites do not have much vegetation between them. Chambersburg is right down the road, so camping needs are close. I am thinking there is a campstore along Route 30 heading toward Chambersburg. I also remember taking the kids go cart racing not far from there. And of course, visiting Gettysburg- always something new to find there!

State park conveniently located off of Lincoln hwy on way to Gettysburg. Beautiful day use areas but campsite areas were not well maintained. Good family atmosphere though.
