We attended this Church the three Sundays we were in Honolulu.Very large church, but a very friendly membership. Kind of Hard to find, located behind an ABC Store, but worth looking for! Very inspiring service, active membership, and welcoming to visitors from the Mainland!

The church was built in 1841. It is beautiful inside. The mass had 2 priests and a guitar mass. The sing and instrumentation were amazing. They have 3 masses on Sunday, and I was amazed at how full the church was; at least 3/4 full.

We went to Sunday mass in the church and it was extremely peaceful, friendly, and serene. If I lived in Honolulu, I would definitely make this my home parish.

My family of 3 visited this church for the 10am service. Very nice service. Very hot inside, but otherwise very positive experience. Friendly people. Great message from the priest. Wonderful music.

I went to 7am mass there and was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful this building is. Absolutely fantastic stain glass windows worth a visit for that alone. Pax et bonum!

It was a very hot crowded service, but we are glad we were there. It is too easy to skip going to church when on a vacation, but there were many tourists among the locals. The hula dancers at the end of the Mass were just wonderful. I loved seeing them use their music and hands to speak a prayer of inspiration and thanks. What a very beautiful church interior!!

This was my mother's favorite church. She always made an effort to come here for Sunday service whenever she was here. i love when they have choirs from neighbouring islands singing there. Beautiful service.

We attended Saint Augustine by--the-Sea while we were vacationing on Oahu. It was a beautiful church and the service was lovely. We felt very included even though we were visitors to the parish. Thank you!

Beautiful church across from the beach. Went to 8:00 mass on Sunday everyone was very friendly and welcoming. There is a nice welcome center upstairs with history of the church you can go to after mass.

We have been coming here from Australia once or twice a year since 2005. The history and look of this church are amazing. Saint Damian and Saint Marianne who helped locals who were banished to a small island because of disease is a humbling act of self sacrifice and God's love.The have a wonderful outreach program, a soup kitchen, great music and so much to offer.So why not a five star rating? Well, in all other Catholic Churches, the time immediately after taking communion is reverent. It is an important time for private prayer and reflection in either a kneeled or seated position. Not here. Everyone is required to stay standing until the celebrant sits down. Yes,. . . everyone must remain standing for at least ten minutes. Hence, no opportunity for reflection and prayer, and if you have a bad back, as my husband and I each have, it hurts to remain standing for so long. In fact, to avoid being disrespectful, we left the church after receiving communion yesterday.BTW, as we were being reminded to stay standing for the entire communion process, I looked around to see many visitors looking surprised concerning this request, and most were clearly over sixty years old. Most people over sixty have at least a few aches and pains. I have to wonder if this standing requirement goes against Vatican guidelines for communion? In any event, it's strange to see how this wonderful church, with it's amazing history, two recently canonised saints, and it's heart in the right place, can impose this standing requirment. When Fr Lane is celebrating mass, he uses his power to relax this standing requirement. If only the other celebrants would do this also so that we could stay for the entire mass!Hence, a wonderful church with an unusual practice.
