well, if you come to Lanai- you have to see it. Read good about how is the driving, what car ( absolutely a Jeep) you have to rent and where to rent. And just know- that you are not god and cant order the weather. After rain...well, sometimes its impossible to drive, sometimes possible...you always take risks in your life- thats one of them.oh, yes, the road is bumpy and rocky, you have to realize you are on a trail, not on the highway :) But when you get there..oh, well, just get there and write a review about breathtaking red rocks and sand, the vastness of it if, the Mars and aliens ...its breathtaking gorgeous !!!

We were very disappointed when we attempted to get to the Garden of the Gods with our jeep. It was the day after a big storm on the island, and the road was bumpy and muddy. But we came to one spot where we could not get through, nor even walk around--too wide and too deep. If you are there in the rain, be aware that you may not make it many places as they flood.

What an amazing place to photograph. It was so "Mars like". We rented a Jeep in Lanai City and then started our adventure. Getting to the Garden of the Gods was pretty easy. Driving through it and arriving at the beach below required a 4WD vehicle. It was totally worth the trip.

Not that bumpy or difficult to get there over a dirt road. We parked at the entry sign and hiked all around to get a feel of the place. The road goes on to a beach but we heard that it was difficult. Indeed, on our hike we saw what was at least a four foot deep rut in the road. No way did we want to drive that way.

I know this a private island, but the roads are worst than I remembered. A little work with a tractor and dump truck loads of dirt would make you want to return.

We loved seeing the "natural" beauty of the Garden of the Gods. It is amazing how different all the Hawaiian islands are, but this is something people do not expect. Beautiful, deep red, rock formations. It was well worth the extremely bumpy, bumpy, bumpy journey. You have to have a 4WD jeep to handle this road-or lack of road. Once you have gotten to the Garden of the Gods be sure to continue down to Polihua Beach. It is the prettiest beach I've seen.

As one of the few things to do on Lanai it is a must see. Difficult to get to especially after rain but the Jeep we rented was able to handle the several water crossings. It really is just an area covered with rock piles, but we enjoyed it. Took about 45 minutes to get to from lanai city.

Enjoyed the jeep ride through the garden of the gods and kept going all the way to the beach. Very bumpy, red dirt trip... Glad we had a hard top jeep with AC to avoid the dust.

Interesting rock formation on the four-wheel drive road to seashore on the very isolated north end of Lanai.

If you like "moonscapes" and lots of various red rocks, it's ok, but not sure if I'd take the time to do it again.... It's quite an interesting road trip as far as the driving goes, no doubt...
