The beach was deserted and lovely, though a bit windy. The view is spectacular. The drive was slow but manageable and bumpy. The main downside was that the soft top jeep the other couple we saw on the beach was filled with wasps when they got back to the parking. Our hard top jeep had many wasps around it but luckily none inside it. If you are on the island for a long stay, it is worth the half day trip and it is certainly worth the trip if you want a lot of privacy on the beach.

This beach was impressive. It was an adventure to get to the beach, and once there the untouched beauty was spectacular.

If you are wanting "a once in a life time" experience then you need to go see Polihua Beach. It is breath-taking! It is NOT easy to get to but once you are there-you will not want to leave. You have to have a 4WD vehicle for these extremely bumpy roads. (Seriously bumpy!!!). We took some beach chairs and food for a picnic. Because of the currents this is not a swimmers beach. We just loved it. We did not see any other people on this beach. My husband and I have been to this beach twice and wanted to stay longer each time. So if you are up for an adventure this is the beach for you.

If there is one thing you absolutely MUST do while in Lanai, it's driving to Polihua Beach! Leave your hotel, rent a four wheel drive, drive through Garden of the Gods, endure the bumpy (understatement) road... it is all worth it. This golden deserted beach has views of Molokai. Apart from some flyfishers and a monk seal, we had the entire place to ourselves. Trust me, you have to see this in person.

I'll preface this review by noting that I was born and raised in Hawaii, so I am very familiar with the beaches on every island. I'm pretty sure that Polihua stands alone in its sheer, breathtaking beauty. The beach is long and wide -- unusual for most beaches in Hawaii, because of erosion issues. On the day I visited, there were several others on the beach, including a group with an ATV, but it did not detract from our beach experience. We did not get in the water, but from the looks of it, and as others have stated here, it appears that there is a sharp drop-off. I would be very cautious of swimming here, as the current looks strong. The drive is fun, if you're into offroading. You'll definitely get a good jostling and a few good laughs as you navigate the rocky path. If you're prone to car sickness like I am, you will definitely want to be the driver. I would strongly advise against going here during or after rain. The slipperiness of the roads and mud would probably make for an anxiety-producing trip.Overall, well worth it!

endless beach you can access with your jeep the car rentals all have on Kauai. You can camp go nude or do whatever you want since the next people you'll see will probably be a mile away. Not a swimming beach but the scenery is really worth it.

To say the drive here from Lanai City is challenging is a huge understatement. It is less than 5 miles from Lanai City, but it took us about an hour, with only maybe 5 mins tops for picture stops along the way. The scenery & views along the way were like nothing else on Earth, especially the Garden of the Gods, which transported you to another world. You cannot call this a road, dirt road, or even a dirt trail, which leads to Polihua Beach. It is more like a rock crawl, very slow & teeth rattling, even frustrating at times. When we could first finally see the beach off in the distance, we still couldn't believe we had that much further to go. But we kept on going, and upon reaching the clearing to the beach, we were in complete awe & amazement. The most beautiful beach we had ever seen, with not a soul around! I mean there was no one else there. We were completely alone on about a mile stretch of gorgeous, almost primitive beach. That being said, the winds here are very strong, so make sure you have lots of stuff to hold your towels & etc. down. We actually moved closer to the trees to cut down on the wind, as next to the water was impossible, with the sand hitting you quite hard from the howling wind. The water was gorgeous, but an EXTREMELY STRONG CURRENT. If you do swim, be careful & don't go too far out. The views were breathtaking, combined with the complete lack of other people, it made for an amazing beach experience. Was it worth the drive? I believe so, as it would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful beach with a complete lack of a human factor. The drive is rough & challenging, with the winds & surf also being a possible drawback. But would we go back? Absolutely!!!

We are in love with Lanai and all of it's beaches. This one was so beautiful and we were the only ones on it! You do need a four wheel drive to get there. We uses 808 Hummers. On the day we were there Dollar rent a car was not allowing their Jeeps off road because it had rained- so check their guidelines before renting- Lanai IS off road!!

As has been said before this beach, at the end of the road past the Garden of the Gods, is well worth the challenge of getting there. One of the most, if not THE MOST, stunning beaches in all Hawaii. Do not attempt to get there if it is forcast to rain and remember there are no services once there; but - no people - solitude and beauty make the trip well worth the effort. Enjoy - Mahalo.

After passing through the Garden of the Gods you head down to Polihua beach and a 4 wheel drive is a necessity. The views of the ocean and outlying islands is unreal, and then you end up on a huge beach with some tree's to park under. We parked the car, and were getting ready to take out the cooler when we noticed more than a few wasps. Eventually Wasps were swarming our Jeep and we took off for the other side of the beach, but they followed us. Unfortunately, our plans for spending a few hours at the beach were interrupted by the wasps. I am sure the wasps are probably only a problem at certain times of the year, we were there June 30th. Hopefully, we will get back there in a few years and we can visit this beach again without the Wasps.
