Famous Kansan William Allen White's Emporia home, also know as Red Rocks, was an interesting an informative guided tour. William Allen White was not only well-known in Kansas, he was nationally and internationally respected. The Red Rocks home entertained five U.S. presidents and other famous Americans. Over 90% of the furnishings in the home are authentic White family possessions. Especially note-worthy on the tour is that you are not just gazing into roped off rooms. You walk into and are allowed to examine each room and its furnishings. You are also encouraged to sit and enjoy the rooms which was helpful for my elderly mother. Very enjoyable!

If you are interested in historic personalities, it is worthwhile to visit Red Rocks, to learn more about William Allen White, the outspoken editor of the Emporia Gazette. A visitor center with a film about him is located in an outbuilding. The home is open by guided tour and reflects the designs of the Craftsman era. Allow about 1 to 1.5 hours for your visit and tour.

Did downtown Emporias ghost tour and this stop was a definite highlight! Really interesting history! Beautiful home and garden-what a treasure for the Emporia area! Will definitely go back!

don't make a special trip unless you are a particular fan of the gent/family. Interesting but placid view of a fellow in the midwest who had influence on many otehr people and the general area, and who endowed and interested others to encourage reading. Thanks!

I & a friend went on a very hot day and went to the guest house out behind the house where we met our tour guide a very interesting young man that knew a lot about what he was talking about. The tour is less than an hour. The house is large and has an interesting history with artifacts from all over the world which was one of the best features. The house otherwise was not anything too fancy compared to others that I have seen in different cities. Worth the $3.00 if you want to learn a little history about William Allen White & his family.
