Thank you for the review. We are glad your visit was enjoyable. Middleton Place offers the best 18th/19th century plantation experience available in Charleston. For future reference, our camelias (there are hundreds in our gardens) bloom in the winter months, and the azaleas (there are thousands in our gardens) bloom in March/April. Check out the full bloom list on our website.

Thank you for visiting Middleton Place and for your review. We regret the experience did not meet your expectations, but we would like to clarify a few points. Middleton Place is a 110-acre National Historic Landmark which strives to accurately teach its patrons about life on an 18th and 19th century Low Country plantation. As you mention, the Main House was destroyed in the Civil War. This is a tragic but true fact of Middleton Place’s history − and a sad reminder of the treasures lost during that great conflict. But the good news is that one of the flanker buildings survived and now serves as a museum and repository of important family –owned paintings, furniture, silver, books and documents. Trained guides lead groups through the House, not only teaching American history through the lens of the Middleton family, but also (importantly) ensuring the security of the collection. Just as the House Museum provides a rare opportunity to learn about American history through family-owned objects, the carriage ride explores the natural environment and the working side of plantation life, and allows visitors to view a tidal rice field and woodland areas from hand-crafted carriages. We strive for the highest levels of education and interpretation, so we promise continued vigilance in fact checking and evaluating guides.

      游览那些美丽的花园,漂亮的外墙,可爱的动物,一整天很快就过去了。没机会去沼泽之旅,无法评价。看过其他评论,加之时间有限,我们也放弃了去参观那些屋舍。极力推荐。

Middleton Place is gorgeous, and since there are many different options of ways to enjoy it, you can spend as much or as little time here as you'd like. We got there a little late in the day so we chose to just do the self-guided tour included in the admission price and wander around the gardens and stables a bit. The gardens were so beautiful and peaceful, and in the stables there were some lambs that had been born just weeks before that were just too cute!! The information booklet for the self-guided tour gave lots of great information about the history of the plantation, however I think if we had a bit more time, I would have really loved to have done the tour of the inside of the house as well... It would have been great to have done a guided tour to get a bit more information about the history of the plantation and family. Plus, since there's so much to see, it probably would have been helpful to have a guide to focus our tour. Overall though, loved the plantation... definitely would recommend you see this one on your trip to Charleston!

This 300 year old plantation about 30 minutes outside of downtown Charleston is well worth the visit. The formal gardens are beautiful, and the history of Middleton Place and four generations of high-achieving Middletons is quite fascinating. Included in the price of admission are three different guided walking tours. I would suggest you plan on arriving at the plantation in the morning to allow you the flexibility of going on more than one tour. I also recommend purchase for $15 of the House Museum guided tour.

Plan to spend a few hours here on a nice day. You can roam the gardens for quite some time. Though the gardens, grounds, and buildings are interesting, rarely was mention made of the slaves who made the place run. If slaves were talked about, it was never by name, though there must be some spoken of in letters, journals, and other historical documents. The docents are hit and miss, though they all seem to love their "jobs"; some are simply better public speakers than others.Wear walking shoes, sunscreen, and weather appropriate outdoor clothing.

We finally got the chance to tour Middleton Place and found it to be beyond incredible. We have toured many sites around country and many plantations, and this is one of our favorite. Little known fact is that scenes from "The Patriot" were filmed there. Beautiful place that is steeped in history. A must see!

I loved this plantation! The place is beautiful and well kept. The people who do the tours are very knowledgeable and you can tell they love what they do. The plantation is soooo rich in history. I learned a lot about slavery and the civil war. Plan on spending the whole day here because there are many different tours which are worth the time. I was disappointed you have to pay extra to go into what is left of the plantation house. If you are going to go to any of the plantation houses in the area I would suggest this one.
