This is definitely an all-day trip unless you're really close to surrounding towns. Six of us left from Seattle/Puyallup late morning, stopping for a bite to eat, and then we wended our way to Ruby Beach. The area is very popular, with both children and dogs in evidence. Be sure to wear adequate footwear, since trail to the sand is downhill and you don't want to fall. Be sure to save some energy for the trip back up, too!I have balance issues, so I had to have help from my fellow travelers in order to actually reach the sand, There are logs to be climbed over/down from and I didn't want to fall. Just be prepared.

Loved that it was secluded. We let our dog run loose. We didn't like that we had to jump over water to get to the other side closer to the BIG island rock. We got our shoes all wet, but it's part of the experience right? If only the weather was a tad warmer, welcome to Washington. It was absolutely gorgeous, if you love the beache, I would definitely go here.

It was pretty crowded here and chilly, but we spent about an hour exploring the beach. There is a fun little trail to get down to the beach and lots of driftwood to sit and relax on. Water is cold and it was cloudy, but that is to be expected.

Ruby Beach was spectacular! Such a beautiful part of the Washington coastline. The views are breathtaking! We were here on a hazy day at low tide which was really cool, walking among the sea stacks and seeing all the activity in the tide pools. We've never seen so many starfish of all different colors- amazing! Bring your camera- it's one of the most picturesque spots along the coast!

Someone told me it's the most photographed stretch of the northwest coast, and I believe it. Absolutely gorgeous at sunset.

On our bucket list was to see "orange star fish". Ruby beach delivered! It was a long drive over from where we stayed, but it's worth the trip. It's a steep path down to the water and coming back up isn't for anyone with breathing problems. I made it down.... coming back was a close call. Still happy to have made the trek. It's an amazing beach.

Nice beach with sea stacks. There is a little bit of a walk on an incline to get to the beach but nothing serious. Gets a little crowded on the weekend.

I just love it! It was the most beautifull beach what I ever seen. We spent there amaizing time with my friends.

Maybe because of the haze, makes this beach looks so like the planet in Avatar. Walking through a nice short trail in the woods, then suddenly the whole beach appears, as if Alice's wonderland, if you come here near sunset. Sea tide is peaceful and there're several different kinds of scenery on the beach: rotten stem, tourist rocks and the famous cliffs. unlike the sandy beach, here's the experience of nice walk and less crowds.

Ruby beach is the 2nd most spectacular beach on the Olympic Peninsula for sunsets and photography. Unlike Rialto beach that is choc full of large driftwood tree trunks, Ruby beach is more about sea stack formations just off shore (or at low tide maybe even on-shore). There is some driftwood near where the river comes in but it’s not the main thing here. Unlike Rialto beach that you can drive right up to, the Ruby beach parking lot is on the top of the bluff and you need to walk down to the beach on a short (1/4 mile) trail. The beach itself is mostly made up of river rocks. These are very rounded and range up to the size of ones hand. There are millions of them and people seem to love to balance stacks of them on driftwood, ledges, or any horizontal surface. These rock stacks are really quite amazing and make for wonderful foreground elements in photographs. We were there in mid afternoon but this should be a wonderful early morning or late afternoon beach for photography. The key to photographing here is to incorporate interesting foreground elements into your landscape. Those piles of stacked rocks work well as do some of the big driftwood tree trunks that you can use as a leading line pointing to a sea stack. In the late afternoon look for that warm golden color on the bleached out, almost white, driftwood to add mood to your images. Then take advantage of the interesting sea stack formations you’ll find such as the one with a whole through it, or the tall skinny one.
