Very nice park with playground and wooden walkway. The park also has a kayak launch which I have not used yet but it's on my things to do list. There picnic tables that are covered located by the playground. This is a great spot for a walk or to watch the kids play, highly recommend it

Friends told us about this wonderful are to view wildlife and nature. This was our second visit to this beautiful serene natural preserve. There is a short very bumpy road you will need to use to get there so go slowly, but you will be glad you did. Take an easy little hike through this lovely Florida Park. Very nice place to visit!

My family and I visited this preserve for the first time recently. We don't live far and thought we'd check it out. Here is what we found:1. Going down Plathe Road from Rowan is not the easiest drive. The road is in rough shape and you really need to look out for potholes as it will tear up your car if you're not careful. Water tends to stay on the road long after the rain is gone which disguises the potholes even more. I know this isn't part of the park, but I really wish they would fix this.2. No fee! We've been to many parks and preserves in the area and just about all of them require a $2 or $3 fee to enter. This is a city preserve and it's 100% free. 3. There is a play structure for the kids. It was installed in 2014 and is obviously new. Ignore previous reviewers that mention this is not a kid friendly park. It is. When you enter the park, drive past the parking area to the left and continue to follow the road till it dead ends with all the parking. The play area is where the restrooms (which are clean!) and picnic shelters are located. It's also a good place to pick up a trail.4. There are fewer trails here and compared to some of the short walking trails near the play area at Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park (be sure to read my review there too) these trails are longer... though not too long! We headed down one of the longer ones with our young kids. It was simply beautiful with a few opportunities to rest along the way. Pick the right trail and it will take you full circle back to where you parked.5. We visited on a weekday in the late afternoon. We were 1 of 3 cars parked the entire time. While the location is close, it is easy to pass by and therefore does not draw a crowd. The only downside is they claim a long list of wildlife, but we didn't see any at all. However, if you're looking for a great place to do some walking, enjoy the outdoors and have that "get away" feeling for free, swing by the James Grey Preserve! I've included several pictures from our visit. If you found this review helpful, please let me know by clicking the button below! I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

This park is out of the way and quiet. There were only 2 other people when I went there. There are some shelters-not a good park for kids. I loved it.

It's hard to find James Grey park, but it's worth it. There are trails that lead through woods and along ponds and streams. Great photographic opportunities. Not many people will be there.

I live really close 2 this park and decided to give it a try for kayaking. This place is great if you just want to spend an hour or so on the water, the water is very dark, but lush with old florida vegetation for about 1.5 miles from launch, then the river widens and is lined with homes, not much to look at then. Bottom line is good place to get in on the water for a quick adventure.

Was so shocked to find this right in the middle of New Port Richey! Canoe/kayak launch with 4.5 miles of natural river to explore, amazing bird trails, an expansive board walk, pavillions, grill, relatively new children's play area! This really is New Port Richey's best kept secret!! By the way, no park fee! This is a preserve with the City of New Port RIchey (not county or state).

I have lived within 2 miles of this park but for some reason, never visited til now. It's a very nice, quiet park with nature trails, a small playground, a small picnic area and some canoe/kayak launches. The only wildlife we spotted on this visit was a few gopher tortises and a giggling teen couple returning from a secluded part of the park. We will return as a family for picnics and nature walks and maybe individually as a great place for meditation in the middle of a busy area.
