not very interesting shops, a lot of more or less antique/flea market types. A lot of potential in this huge, old building though & hopefully more tenants will move in.

I didn't realize it was a building with consignment goods. They do seem to be repairing the outside to look more presentable.

This is an old piano factory that closed many years ago and has been converted into a mini-mall of sorts. I always end up buying stuff here when in town. Lots of great little stores with friendly people working them. Worth a visit!

JMJ After visiting the Eternal Indian Statue in Oregon, IL, we asked the waitress at the Spring Valley Restaurant where else we should visit. She recommended the Conover Square and gave us the simple directions. We are not big antique hunters but the building itself was so inviting. Upon entering we discovered how fun a building it is. In the old Cable Piano Company Building, the "square" is filled with quaint stores of antiques or crafts and a very interesting Train Club. For free you can admire the set up of a large area of tracks, trains, and countryside in scale. Everyone was so friendly and eager to share their knowledge of history throughout the building. Their is a small history museum on the second floor which is also free. Being use to everything with a charge in most cities, this is an enjoyable, relaxing stop in Oregon, IL.

It used to have cute little shops in it but many of them have left. The last time I was there, there wasn't much to do or see. There is some history on the walls but not much else to do.

I give them credit for trying. There are a few nice shops, but also a lot of junk/antiques. There is a bakery and a hot dog place. My favorite store was the DragonFly one. I wish there was more interesting history about it being an old piano factory. There are also a lot of hobbie-centered stores: pottery, jewelry, books, classic toys, etc. There is a jeweler with his shop and he really knows his stuff. If I ever had to have a piece of jewelry made I would go to him.

Much of the shops had a very average assortment of knick-knacks and "antiques" (more like garage sale items). We did find some treasures at The Vintage Cupboard. The shopkeeper was friendly and helpful. There was also a ladies' boutique (the name escapes me!) that had some lovely vintage clothing as well as current trendy items like patterned leggings and tank tops with lace trim. The young woman there was very nice - I'm so sorry I can't remember the name of the shop because I'd definitely go back. It was on the opposite side of the mall from The Vintage Cupboard.

Nice variety of shops under one roof. We enjoyed shopping around and found some things to buy as well. We will visit again next time we're in Oregon.

Conover Square is an old piano factory on the Riverfront that was converted into a little shopping center. There is an art gallery and a train museum that have fun exhibits. There is an eclectic mix of merchants on two floors, A couple of antique stores, aromatherapy shop, jewelry, Kitchen supply store, pottery, baskets, and misc others. There isnt much to eat, but the coffee shop has some yummies and makes great coffee to keep your stomach from grumbling. The stores themselves may not be a very big draw for visitors, but its lovely location along the river and historical significance are quite interesting.. Built in 1893, the building is overflowing with history. Brick arches adorn the hallways and the walls are lined with memorabilia from the past. Vintage pianos are on display for viewing and playing. The building could use some upgrading, its looking tired and worn, but Conover Square Its definitely worth an hour of so of your time. There is plenty of parking and a pleasant river view.
