This place has all we look for in a nature preserve. Respectfully natural setting, places for people of all ages to tramp around and enjoy, strenuous and easy trails and the beautiful Chatahootchee River. We even saw an otter! The park is clean with many restroom facilities.

Sprawling (5th largest state park in GA) grounds. Well kept. Main feature is the Chattahoochee River bend with great access for boats, kayaks, canoes. You can rent kayaks from the park ranger office/station. Trail hikes are good, (especially along the river) , but need better signage and clean-up (lots of rain this summer). Camping spots are OK, but many lack trees/shade. Ranger staff is outstanding--friendly, knowledgable, helpful. Clean facilities, environmentally friendly. Great picnic areas for large family gatherings. Good location -- not far from Newnan.

Newnan is a nice town and this is a great, but simple park. Don't go expecting huge waterfalls and mountainous trails. Go expecting a very nice and helpful staff, extremely well maintained trails, views of Atlanta's Chattahoochee River, and the occasional wildlife.

This place is a beautiful, approx. 3000 acre Ga. state park. It is almost all woods sitting with near a large bend on the Chattahoochee river, excellant area canoe, kayak and swim. They have a boat ramp with a nice tree covered picnic area next to the river. It has really nice picnic tables and grills to cook on. This part was well thought out. But most people come to the woods to escape the hustle and bustle of life for a couple of days or so. With that said, the walk-in platform tent camping areas are extremely beautiful and shaded, a real plus when you consider that trees block the heat of the sun and make it comfortable enough to enjoy nature in the heat of the summer. The walk-in camp sites are clean, with enough understory between them to make it feel as though you are not sitting on top of your fellow neighbor campers. Then there is the lean to large platform Adirondack screened in room type camping. These set down a hill, with several of the units setting in a 3/4 circle around a shared picnic/grilling area. These are really nice and well thought out. you will be kinda close quarters with the other campers but if you dont mind a little socializing, then this is a nice place to camp in a sleeping bag inside a one side open screened platform. Now for the really, really bad. I just cant believe that with 3000 acres of land, the planners couldn't do better than this. Imagine, in the middle of the summer sitting in a RV or small camper parked in the HOT sun, in the middle of a paved Walmart parking lot with heat radiating off the pavement for your enjoyment!, and thats about what you have for the people who bring a camper. Picture this now, almost 3000 acres of woods and the build the camper pull-ins in a spot that either has no trees or shade or they cut them down and built the camping spots there. Either way your going to burn up in the summer. Like I said, you might as well go down to a hot scorching walmart parking lot to camp, as that,s what it reminded me of. Not only that but there is now privacy at all, no understory to separate the campers even a little bit, no trees to shade those that might wan't to set outside their campers and enjoy nature. I was appalled at the design of these sites. Who approved this design and the planners should all be fired too!!! I go camping to escape the heat of the pavement not bake in it! With that said, all the sites are really close together, like the regular ugly rv parks people camp in from time to time. State parks have always been the creme-de-creme of the camping world, but not this one, this is a shame to those who accepted it for the many dedicated GA state campers like me who come to love the layouts of the many camping sites around the state. Like I said, if you not staying in a camper in the summer months you could probably deal with the lack of trees and understory between the all too close campsites. They are suppose to have a second section built later on, may they will NOT use the same planners and make some really nice camping areas for section 2. With nearly 3000 acres of woods, I'm still in disbelief about what a poor job they masterminded on these sites.

My wife and I have visited Chattahoochee Bend State Park on many occasions, This is the closest state park to our home in Newnan. Being Georgias' newest State Park it is both impressive and really new. It is located on a picturesque bend in the river and has a boat ramp for those interested in that. Plenty of picnic pavillions and tables. Multiple hiking trails including one right along the waters edge. Although we do not camp, there are plenty of camp sites always with plenty of campers of every size and shape. Like all state parks, for a 5$ parking fee this is a great place to visit, eat a picnic, then walk off those extra calories.
