Maybe I'd spent too much time in Dubrovnik, but the old town and citadel at Budva was not that impressive. If you in Montenegro, I recommend spending more time in Kotor if you're looking for historic battlements and a great view.

The view of the bay is incredible. But, the citadel itself isn't much to see. There are very few signs. There's been many modifications over the centuries. It's nearly impossible to tell what it used to look like when it was used as a citadel.

The entry for the Citadel is 2.50€ but its worth every cent. The best photo locations are inside. With great views towards the sea the island and the city. I rly liked the Citadel and the whole city of Budva it reminds me of Italy.Similar architecture.I recommend the visit to this city.

The Citadel at Budva costs €2.50 per person to enter for which you can see the Library and a very small museum (One room). The best thing about it are the see views. However it is not really worth the €2.50 entrance fee for minimal information inside

A small little fortress which contains great views of the bay and the beaches beside it. Has nice Maritime library on the second floor. Worth a visit.

The Old town is quite a bit smaller than Kotor's old town, but it still has it's own charm. It was built in 840 AD and with a facelift and reinforcement in the 15th century it is still in very good shape. Neat little shops, restaurants and pubs to keep you occupied while enjoying the local history.

Stunning view and "antique" atmosphere! Very nice cuisine, gorgeous buildings. The best experience was at night, when short paths became so mysterious. Had a magnificent feelings! Worth visiting!

We enjoyed our short visit to the old town which has retained much character, albiet on a rather small scale when compared with nearby Kotor. Unfortunately the increasing sprawling development of the new town contrasts sharply and has little to commend.

The citadel in Budva is the main historic attraction within the walls of the Old Town. It was built in 840 and added to over the years. It was reinforced in the 15th C when the town was under Venetian rule and again in 1836 when Austrian troops were stationed here. Entry is €2 and from the roof you have fine views across the city and out to St Nikolas Island in the Adriatic. On the roof you will find a café and some cannons. Here also you can start a walk of the city walls, through a turnstile which takes Euro coins. There's a small museum inside the citadel with mostly models of ships and a large library.
