I think we were there too early in the day to see much, but the buildings are in caves apparently. It seems they have attached fronts to them so it doesn't look like a cave. I'm sure its cool inside though!

We went on a bit of a walking tour led by the flamenco venue, who picked us up at the meeting point in town. I would never have thought of walking this far from where we stayed, but this was the highlight of our stay. Walking at night is completely safe and ignites your imagination. Houses are dug into the side of the mountain ... wow. This is why we travel! Living history that inspires conversation and reading. This is a great opportunity to see something new.

A charming area of Granada; a bit of an uphill walk so make sure you have plenty of water with you; on a sunny day it can be scorching hot as well so a cover for the head is good. A meandering little gem worth a visit as you can have some lovely pictures of the local buildings and then can take in the whole panorama of the city of Granada from the church at the very top.

We had planned to visit Sacromente, but we had not bargained on there being no bus service on our route on a Sunday. In the event, we took the bus as far as it went and walked the rest of the way. The exercise was undoubtedly healthy, and the views were spectacular.

We went up to Sacromonte one Thursday evening in February around 8:30 and it was absolutely dead. Most caves were shut, some that were barely open were completely empty. We could hear a few dancers practice their steps, but the restaurants were empty.May be we went during the wrong season and a tad too early in the evening to see Sacromonte in its full regalia. Just check before you head up there. Best way to do so is taking C1 from Plaza Nueva. You can then walk back down if need be.

The gypsies settled and have lived here for many generations. If you want to experience the real flamenco, this is the place to go. It is full of "caves" dwellings where they perform each night. This will be an unforgettable experience if you enjoy flamenco.

It is an authentic neighborhood especially full of caves were gypsies live and performe flamenco. It is the place to experi authentic flamenco, especially the place called Maria La Canastera.

I'm not sure if we should have gone up there with somebody to guide us but we practically went up by bus, got lost and walked back down.

Up north but to the right of Albayzin, you can take a bus or wander a few minutes up the hills to the area full of locals, little cafes/restaurants and most of the buildings are caves made out of stone which actually lead into the hill. In the evenings the restaurants/bars open and are rumored to have flamenco and excellent tapas. During the day these are closed, but there is a cave museum which has recreated the cave town which can be explored and experienced for only 5euros. The views from up here are fantastic of Alhambra and definitely worth seeing, without being surrounded by other tourists.

Fantastic tiny street weave their way up to a couple of bars and flamenco cafes with fabulous views over Alhambra. Well worth the effort. Have a drink in a tiny little cave bar 'Los Faroles' to meet some locals and the charming elderly publican. A gem.
