Alfama is like no other part of the city. A walk through the narrow winding cobbled streets takes you back in time. Very pretty vantage points, many opportunities to stop, take a break and relax with a cold drink. This area is a must see in Lisbon. After you've explored on foot, take the Yellow Bus' Hills Tram Tour or the 28 tram, both of which wind their way through the narrow roads. Take it slowly and soak up the atmosphere....you'll love it.

We stayed in an apartment in Alfalma and were near so many historic sites like St Jorges Castle Lisbon Cathedral. It is a beautiful area .

Old area of Lisbon where you can find nice restaurants playing Fado. Nice to explore on a tram or walking

This is a really lovely area of Lisbon to walk around. The best part is when you wander the narrow little lanes, are lost, and discover a bunch of old women sitting together and gossiping. Makes one feel like one has stepped back in time.

We really like the Alfama and it's very old buildings and markets and the narrow streets. We especially enjoyes eating in the restaurants around the Escolas Gerais and the Fado near Graca.

Throw away the map and just wander the narrow streets! Lots of interesting nooks and crannies to get lost in and plenty of bars and restaurants to stop for a drink or something to eat.

Amazing old part of Lisbon. Catch the tram up and then wander your way down, getting lost as you go. Amazing narrow streets and friendly locals. Must do.

Alfama is a vibrant place to stay, with great places to eat and drink, Tabuas Porto Wine Tavern for a start. With surprises around each corner, history and fun.

The best way to do the area is by foot. If you are unable to walk well then hire a tuc tuc such as 'I tuk you' they do Fado tour for 60e and lasts nearly 2 hours.
