Extraordinary and romantic place. Magical atmosphere. I liked most the outdoors areas -the amazing gardens and external parts of the palace-. The indoor of it is interesting but not so special. In my opinion you can´t miss Quinta Regaleira, Da Pena, Montserrate and Castelo dos Mouros -besides Sintra itself- when staying at the area.

Wasn't sure what to expect here. Not typical "gardens": a lot of greenery but not an abundance of flowers (mid-March). However, fascinating nooks & crannies and lots of places to explore. Weird main house, fascinating tunnels & well and very attractive, small chapel (with Knights Templar theme). Ended up having a very enjoyable afternoon here. Only minor quibble: perhaps maps or signage could be better.

Just Google the Initiatic Well and you will see why I had to go. You can explore the grounds, caves and the well. Don´t miss this place which is a 10min walk from Sintra town (first stop on the tourist bus 434 which you catch from Sintra railway). Combine this with the National Palace and Pena Palace and you have a day out from Lisbon to remember

Words cannot describe the grounds. It was beyond fabulous. Best thing we saw in three weeks in Portugal and Spain.

While staying in Lisbon, we knew that we wanted to take a day trip to Sintra. We wanted it to be a relaxing day and didn't want to plan too many activities. However, when researching the various palaces, etc., I became really confused because it seemed like some of the locations went by different names. Also, some of the brochures didn't even mention the Quinta da Regaleira. Finally, I think that some of the reviewers might have confused the sites by name, as well.To prevent others from having similar frustrations, let me say that the Quinta da Regaleira IS the mansion with the beautiful grounds, full of secret tunnels, fountains, towers, etc. The mansion, itself, does bear a resemblance to the Adams Family's house. The inside has absolutely breathtaking craftsmanship, particularly in the woodwork. There is so much interesting detail to observe. The grounds are a whole other story. There is so much to uncover and explore. I really did feel like a little kid, anxious to see what was next. You can spend as much or as little time as you like, wandering around. We were on the premises for about two hours and definitely didn't see everything. I would definitely recommend that you bring some sort of flashlight, as some of the tunnels are very dark. (Also, do take the time to research the background of the place, as it is quite fascinating.)There was a small outdoor café open, where we purchased a pastry and coffee at a fairly reasonable price, and the waitstaff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We had a fabulous experience.

a 10 minute walk from the centre of Sintra or accessible by the new green route on the hop off hop on bus route and close to the Palacio Setais hotel and Montserrat as on the same road- latter is also a must. The gardens and tunnels are a MUST and the house is interesting- smaller than the palaces in Sintra but still worthwhile

Exuberant sheme involved Portugal's best artists. Italian renaissance style, stairway carved from the wood of chestnuts tree, hunting scenes on Venetian mosaic floor.I think is one of the most surprising and enigmatic monuments of Sintra. The Initiatic well full of esoteric feelings and the underground walkway really impress me.The garden is revealed trough a succession of magic and mysterious places

It's one of a MUST see in Sintra after Pena Palace and Moors Castle. The place has stunning Gothic architecture and it gave us a feeling that it was full of mysteries. Really worth a visit.
