A lovely day out for everyone. The relaxed atmosphere allows families to picnic in glorious surroundings on manicured lawns. The ruins are magnificent and are preserved well by The National Trust. A place I will never tire of visiting.

Fountains Abbey is well worth a visit, part of the National Trust, it is well maintained and very interesting. The grounds are extensive, a lovely place for a nice long walk

The grounds are wonderfully presented and the ruins are atmospheric. It is a special place. I found the way the historic water mill was presented particularly apt. All in all this is one of my favourite attractions in Yorkshire. There is nothing that I could fault it for. It is well run by the National Trust.

This is a brilliant place to visit, which is suitable for all ages and abilities. Flat walks with good paths, and a beautiful water garden with swans, ducks, moorhens and lots of other birds. Being National Trust, the admission fees are expensive if you don't have membership, but you can spend a whole day here walking, picnicking, and exploring the huge abbey ruins. Don't forget your camera, you will have ample opportunity to get some fantastic photos of the architecture and wildlife on the water and around the gardens. There is a lovely cafe with seating outside and in, selling a great choice of home made cakes and sandwiches, also lovely coffee. I had a pot of tea, "for one"; (which would have been more than enough for 4 people)!!There are toilets at both ends of the gardens, and lots of picnic tables if you wish to bring your own food. The views are stunning, and there is a good gift/garden shop, with plants and ornaments, etc, for sale. A 'grand day out'!

As with all National Trust properties there is a good reception area with helpful volunteers to welcome and advise.Plenty of options for a cup of coffee or retail therapy in the National Trust shop selling national and local items. There is a short walk down to the abbey ruins which you can wander around unhindered by fences and ropes. A fantastic place for taking photographs. This is a big site and we could not manage to walk around the whole site. There were electric scooters available for those with limited mobility - if required it would be worth making enquiries prior to arrival. This site is free for National Trust members and the web site also says free for English Heritage members too. Otherwise adults are £12.10 with children half price.
