I arrived by train into Ely and as you step outside the railway station you can see Ely cathedral over looking Ely its a good 15 minute walk or if your like me just 10 mins. It does cost £8.00 to get into the cathedral and there are concessions. Once inside its breath taking just so much to see the stained glass windows the ceiling everything is breath taking, to tour it will properly take you 2 hours they are guided tours to. Please go in its one of the best cathedrals i have ever visited.

Ely cathedral is full of wonders but also some parts that are clearly in need of TLC. It is worth a visit for the fantastic ceilings and lantern. It is a bit pricey to visit and I think it's rather cheeky not to include the stained glass museum ...but then it all goes to a very good cause.

Interesting place to visit with architecture from different centuries. The outside is wonderful. The worst part is that your entrance fee does not include the stain glass window display.

Historical cathedral. I attended a sung service on Sunday. The choir was excellent and the congregation was incredibly friendly.

We arrived on a blustery March morning - free parking for up to 2 hours! Yay! Walked to the cathedral to find tickets were available from Tourist information which we'd walked past 300yds up the road. Walked back. Door was locked. At this point we gave up. Headed into Cafe Nero. Had a coffee and left. Discovering that tickets were £8 each anyway convinced me I'd made the right decision. If they want people to enjoy a visit they need to improve the signage and make visitors feel welcome. This is the second bad experience I've had at a Church of England Cathedral. Not encouraged to try another.

There are very few signs outside explaining when the cathedral is open to visitors, we quietly looked inside to see if we could find out more and we were told off!We had to go to the Oliver Cromwell House to discover the facts about the entrance and tours. Once we got back into the cathedral we went up the West Tower which was very good.On Sunday you can look around the cathedral for free.

It's such a shame that our visit to this lovely building was ruined by the excessive entrance fee of £8 per person. It just isn't worth the cost and I'm sure that this has deterred many people from enjoying this building which is part of our shared National heritage.

We made a day visit and decided to dedicate a lot of time to the cathedral - and are glad we did. It takes a little while to buy tickets (there are various options on offer) but the cathedral guides were quick to spot a queue and move some people on to another pay point. The cathedral is beautiful on the outside and the inside is just as awe inspiring, particularly the ceiling, the stained glass and the Octagon. We also included payment for a visit to the stained glass museum which was very worthwhile and interesting (although boring if you prefer your museum with bells/buttons and audience participation!!). There are 40 spiral stairs (with a break in between) to reach the museum but it is manageable if you are of average fitness. Our ticket option will allow us a return visit over the coming year, which we may well need to do as it is difficult to take it all in. The RSN / Cathedral embroidery needlework exhibition was on and so we also visited this. The work was stunning. My only gripe was that, having paid admission for this, there was then another £2.50 to be shelled out for a catalogue. At the very least, I thought the exhibits should have titles and a small description as I felt it was excessive to ask for yet more money in order to find out even the most basic information!! On principle, we did without and just admired the work as best we could. Otherwise, a wonderful visit and it is worth dedicating some time to this beautiful place.

Frequently voted the most beautiful cathedral in the country, it has a stunning history and an atmosphere to die for inside, stop off for a cup of tea at the cafe after!

We went to Ely Cathedral for a visit while on holiday in the area and we were not disappointed. We had a brief look around on our own and at 10. 45 am we joined a guided tour, there were only 4 of us on the tour and the guide was excellant and very informative. He talked for an hour and a half about the Cathedral and its history and it mad our visit a lot more interesting.I would recommend joining a guided tour,as it is such an interesting place with a wealth of history. He was also well informed about the how the Cathedral cam to be on this site. There was also a Needle work Exibiton in the cathedral which was an added thing to see.
