We are a family of four (children aged 5 & 8). We have done the full route of the Guild Wheel as a couple and sections of it as a family. Good, safe, off road cycling. Nice and flat in the main - only one steep bit which you can walk up. Plenty of places for a picnic if the weather is nice. Good cheap healthy day out with the children :-)

Excellent 21 mile circle around Preston. Very scenic and cycle and dog friendly. Would prefer if more cyclists rang their bells!!

I've lost count of how many times I've been around the Preston wheel and I see different things every time. The scenery constantly changes and varies from industrial to country side. There are a couple of sections that you need to be careful on where you have to cross main busy roads but a bit of common sense will help ;-)The route takes in a couple of steep sections, both up and down but these are all short and easily walkable, the steepest hill (on the clockwise route) is about a 15% incline but there is an alternative route signposted if you don't fancy it. The hill section at brockholes is a challenge and if you are not a confident cyclist I would try to walk down it rather than ride it.This time of year (nov/dec) a lot of the tarmac paths are covered in fallen leaves which are very slippy so be careful on the corners. One thing to be careful of is dogs on extendable leads, if you see a dog and its owner assume there is a lead between them that you cannot see and slow down. A bell is a must to warn walkers/runners that you are behind them.If anyone fancies a spin around it give me a shout and I'll be happy to take you :-)Depending on your fitness it will take anything from 1-3 hours to complete the route, unless you stop of for refreshments ;-)

A couple of us Canadians were here in the Preston area for 10 days and heard about the Guild Wheel. So we bought a couple of used bikes and rode around the wheel. Very nice. I particularly liked the different scenes from light industrial to country. Worth the £20 I spent on the bike and of course used it for mini trips after the wheel day. There's even a Starbucks along the NE section and a few pubs to stop at if you get parched. Worth bringing some water along though. Enjoy!

Whether a beginner or experienced rider, (1 of each here!) you will be able to get something out of the Guild Wheel! Do as much or as little as you like of it, we first tried it with friends and struggled the first time to do it all even tho we chose the "easy" clockwise direction. But, after a couple of attempts we can now complete it in one go (as long as we dont stop off at one of the tempting watering holes such as The Conti near the river approaching Broadgate...also to be recommended!) You can make it a time trial, or as most people do, just go your own pace with all the other cyclists to enjoy the view and scenery. You wouldn't believe you were so close to a City at times!! we took a picnic to have at half way which was cool, everyone says hi as they pass so its a nice safe friendly little day out too! suitable for all ages as you'll see this is a little gem of a creation for Preston and attracts visitors from all the surrounding areas to come and spend the day here!the Anti clockwise route is far harder and for the more experienced, at the Brockholes centre, just past it actually, there is a steep hill (this is UPHILL in the ANTI CLOCKWISE DIRECTION) that can be slippy and muddy (even coming down it walking with your bike! so choose your direction beforehand with that in mind!! we are so used to it now that we will do one direction in the morning and the opposite direction in the afternoon! Its approx 22 miles, sounds a lot but its a great and healthy option to spend the afternoon on what might otherwise be a lazy Sunday! The miles actually fly by and you'll be surprised how far you can go without a break! Looking forward to the spring and warm weather, when we can get back on it!

I walked the section of the Guild Wheel from the Tickled Trout to London Road and back. I found it an attractive route, whichwas well maintained and signposted.

I went for a run around the guild wheel last week. 23 miles (seriously!) and I couldn't find it. I just ended up where I started. I though it would be like the London Eye

Guild Wheel is one of the best thing to happen to Preston in recent times. Dont Know where the idea originatec but is was inspired. Young and old alike can utilise the Walking / Cycling circuit which is broken down into manageavle sections some more challenging then others. For anybody who has not attempted the sections yet I would fully reccomend it. We have completed the entire circuit and would do it again and again. The only negative comment would be that there are some idiotic and inconsiderate cyclists who insist on speeding past pedestrians without any thought of each others safety, this happened to us an several occasions around the circuits.

Went on my first Guild Wheel ride on a quiet Tuesday afternoon so it was spot on. Not sure why but decided to do the ride clockwise and thinking back probably a easier ride than anti-clockwise. The majority of it was flat with a couple of steep accents and one good 'off road' downhill. There is a few busy roads to cross but nothing difficult. No good for a road bike but hybrid and mountain bike is spot on. I parked at Brockholes which has plenty of spaces, a cafe for a brew after and is a good starting point. You get a good overview of the city and see some really good sights of what Preston has to offer. The ride took 2hrs which was leisurely and could be done quicker. I will be doing this again very soon.
