History and imagination weave through you as you wander around this site. The views over the inlet where boats are moored underpin the typical picture of this beautiful province.

This ruin has some incredible views across the lough. Parking is free and there are a number of boards detailing the history of the buildings.

We used to go to Nendrum lots when we lived in Belfast - even on Christmas Day! We loved the peace, the views and the remoteness. It's also really interesting exploring the remains and imagining how the monks used to live.

The old monastic site has a very peaceful feel and there are sign boards describing the mpnastery that used to be there. Pleasant views of some of the inlets of Strangford Lough and also the old tidal mill. Watch out for high tides.

There is really only the old rocks of church and other buildings to see, however your imagination can easily fill in the blanks. The sun was shining when we visited the site and to look over the country side was well worth the drive through the "islands". There are several plaques to tell you about the early days and what once stood here. Well worth the drive!

One of my favourite places to visit when I was growing up, loved our frequent trips here :-). Beautiful location, interesting history

Fantastic views, a good but small interpretive centre, and the site of two of the oldest tidal mills discovered to date....

Hi it's holiday time, everyone was off and the weather was fab. What better time to have a family picnic outdoors at Nendrum Monastic Site just outside Comber near Mahee Island.http://www.discovernorthernireland.com/Nendrum-Monastic-Site-Comber-Newtownards-P2877We all brought different things, one of my sisters brought egg sarnies and ham sarnies, the other brought salami sarnies and ham/cheese, we brought parathas, aloo gobhi and yoghurt, along with tea and soft drinks. The kids all played football, catch and we wondered around the ruins of this old nearly 1000 year old site. The other adults just lay on the picnic blankets and had a snooze. We have so many wonderful spots to go c and visit in NI. Please get up and go check them out!!!!

This is a beautiful place. I live nearby but often go there anyway. I took a friend of mine who was over France last weekend and she loved it. The views over Strangford Lough from Nendrum are stunning and peaceful! This is a little gem found at the end of a windy road, with water on both sides, lots and lots of wee islands, its is absolutely gorgeous!
