Today the Historical Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania in Kaunas functions as a memorial-educational institution of Lithuanian modern statehood. A permanent historical exhibition features representative portraits, pieces of art that originally decorated the interior of the Palace, gifts to the Presidents, surviving authentic furniture, historical pictures recording the Presidents’ foreign and internal activities, public activities, pictures from personal life and many more things that tell the story of the First Republic of Lithuania. Visitors are offered a comprehensive introduction into the evolution of modern state and the opportunity to feel the pulse of a growing city that suddenly faced the challenge of becoming a capital and rapidly changed from a fortress into a modern city. Periodic temporary exhibitions commemorate outstanding historical figures and events. Many other social and cultural gatherings – such as scholarly conferences, concerts, book presentations, public lectures and meetings with outstanding public persons – are aimed at stimulating discussions about modern statehood and civic society.

House with quite a history in it. Originally built as a residence for the russian Governor in Kaunas later became the Lithuanian president's official residence, where he lived with his family. Наверное, я не прав. Просто, насмотревшись по всему миру на огромные и помпезные дворцы и всякие президентские здания, я не отдал должного неказистому маленькому домику в центре города. Но для литовцев он значит совсем другое...

Для литовцев это здание, наверное, имеет глубокое символическое значение, а всем остальным покажется очень простеньким - просто двухэтажный особнячок, каких в том же Петербурге полно, при нем скверик с несколькими информационными щитами, и немудрящая выставка внутри.

Историческая Президентура знакомит посетителей с жизнью 3 президентов Литовской Республики, которые работали здесь в годы, когда Каунас был столицей, а также, вкратце с жизнью и бытом литовской интеллигенции до Второй Мировой войны. Самое теплое и душевное впечатление оставили сотрудницы музея, которые с удовольствием представили экспозицию и рассказали нам об историческом здании и людях, связанных с ним.

Бывший президентский дворец находится у начала Аллеи Свободы и Старого города, по другую сторону. Выглядит как обычный дом губернского чиновника, таковым он и был до Первой Мировой войны. Именно здесь была резиденция президента, когда Каунас был временной столицей Литвы между Мировыми войнами.
