I used to visit St. Moritz in the past many times. It was Expensive. Now its over expensive and stayed behind as other places have developed. The advantage is few people (due to the prices). Anpother thing is has become completely Italian - all for the good. (couldn't even speek German or swiss-doitch at the hotel :))

If you are reading this review, odds are you do not know much about this valley. Well, be prepared for a grand winter experience! I am a serious off piste skier so I was a bit disappointed with what the mountains had to offer by way of slopes, but the views were truly great. Every angle had a mix of multiple village outlines and soaring mountainscapes rendered anew with every change in weather and light. It must be a great place to visit in the summer, when the lakes get to show off their offerings and the weather makes it possible to indulge in leisurely outings without multiple layers of clothing...

The Swiss Alps are incredible! The view. To ski. To hike. The town of Engadine is charming- right out of a fairy tale.

Really beautiful views, a must for nature lovers. If you are on budget, get the regular compartment [Tirano-St.Moritz] . It runs exactly the same route, but with normal windows on train.If you love white snow, then plan for the winter. The lake next to the station of St.Moritz is too good for a stroll. For the shutter bugs, you will run out of time clicking those views.

If you visit the St. Moritz I recommend taking the train from Chur. Most airlines and train station offer transport of your luggage directly to your hotel for a minimal fee. Check out Fly Rail Baggage or SBB: Luggage Switzerland. Opened in 1904 the Albula line was added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 2008. The journey is breathtaking and a fitting start for a vacation that feels you have just landed in a fairy tale.St. Moritz, the name is legend, the cradle of winter tourism, it evokes images of glittering parties, sleigh rides in snowy forests and on frozen lakes, glamour, aprés ski, jet-set and much much more.St. Moritz is all about beauty and it surrounds one wherever you go and whatever you do.This is the place that happy memories have decided to make their home and they put an inner glow in everyone who visits. One can almost feel the fun, laughter and joy that lived and lives here and makes even the most hardened worries and troubles melt away. To me this is the true magic of this place and the reason I return over and over again because it never fails to inspire me and afford a fresh perspective on what truly matters in life.St. Moritz offers world class skiing and until well in the morning you have most runs to yourself. For powder skiing head to Corvatsch. Because St. Moritz is not known as a freeride destination one can savour champagne powder for days on end. Or start the day with breakfast at Diavolezza, ski here until it fills up and then head to Lagalp. Lagalp offers over 1000m steep vertical drop (one of the fun things to do is race the gondola) for world-class carving or various faces for offpiste powder skiing. Bergrestaurant Lagalp is a magical place for lunch and the food is to die for. On Corvatsch I recommend Kuhstall (during summer it serves as a barn for cows) and on Corviglia start the day with a Nussgipferli at Chamanna. Depending on your mood enjoy lunch at Matthis (if you feel glamorous, have a craving for elegance, gourmet food or simply want to work your way through the most extensive desert menu I have seen), return to Chamanna -in my opinion the best Rösti on the mountain- or head for Stüvetta in Marguns for Italiano. Aprés skiing is a class of its own; simply follow the music and crowds. Friday night for a special treat head to Corvatsch for an enchanted night of skiing, partying and dancing beneath twinkling stars in winter wonderland on Switzerland's longest illuminated slope. If you don't feel like skiing go for a walk along the frozen lakes or snowy forests; the area in and around St. Moritz are breathtaking when it comes to walking. Nature is still intact and because of the sheer endless possibilities there are no masses of people to deal with so walks and hikes have an almost mediative quality -it feels as if it is just you and the utterly glorious nature being part of the natural flow of things- and never fail to instill a profound sense of joy inside me. Activities outside of all of this are too numerous to mention; Exhibitions, Spas and Pools, Gourmet Festival, Chocolate Cult, wine tastings, horse races, sleighing and sledding,cross-country skiing, curling, ice-skating, horse-rising, hang gliding, snowkiting,... to name just a few. Worth mentioning is also the floodlit toboggan run from Preda to Bergün. It covers a distance of 6km making it Europe's longest floodlit toboggan run and the atmosphere in the evening is similar to that of Friday night skiing at Corvatsch. Whenever I think of it images of racing downhill feeling the wind in my hair, dancing beneath the stars, laughter and I can almost smell the mulled wine.Preda is easily accessible by train. At most hotels for a stay for 2 days or longer lift tickets are included in the price.One of the highlights of early season in December is the lighting of the christmas tree in front of the Palace Hotel; you will think you stepped straight into a Christian Anderson fairytale.A final word on the weather forecasts. Weather in the mountains cannot be predicted with the standard forecasts as anyone who spends significant time in the mountains will attest.So I wouldn't put too much stock in the weather forecasts. And, as shown above, there is so much to do and experience in St. Moritz that no matter what weather you will have the vacation of a lifetime.

The journey to St Moritz by train is itself a great experience of Switzerland's amazing landscape and scenery. We pass through the high Engadin plateau, entering the Albula Tunnel at 1,815 m ,the train has to go through many spirals and tunnels because of the high difference of altitude within a short distance.Beautiful scenery all around ,everything looks pristine and crystal clear on bright summer mornings ,excellent for walks and hikes to the various trails .The town seemed a bit quiet at night,perhaps winter is really the peak season.

This is one of the least spoilt mountain areas of Switzerland where it is still possible to hike without the hordes. Paths are well maintained and signposted. Lifts help you get into the mountains to enjoy your walks. Heaven!

Spectacular and breathtaking views! I felt like I was going to hear Julie Andrews singing the "Sound of Music" theme song as I was riding my bike around St. Moritz and riding the buses and trains all through the Engadine Valley. A must see in Switzerland!

Think Sound of Music set and you will be there. Did a day hike taking the train from St. Moritz to Celerina and hiking back again through the Engadine pass. Easy 3 hr hike rewarded with excellent mountain views, waterfalls, flowing rivers, and ample wildlife. Wow!
