Södermalm (the South Island) is the most alive and bubbling place of Stockholm. If you decide to walk around it, you will not be disappointed, stunning views of the City build on 14 islands. The walk is approximately 2,5 hours and about 12 kilometres. You have the views of The Old Town and other islands from Katarina vägen and Fjällgatan, where all tourist busses stop for a while to show the tourists the amazing views and you can have a coffee an ice-cream in the kiosk . Further on the south promenade of Södermalm, the sun-side, you see across the lake the new neighbours with modern architecture reflected on the water (you can take the free ferry to the other side) the promenade continues through a variety of different environments where you can see how the swedes live and in the summer, the sailboats. From the north side you see the beautiful Town Hall (where the Nobel price banquete is) and the others islands from a tourist path named Montelius vägen. Along the whole promenade there are coffee shops, very cosy ones, to grab a coffee and newly baked bums—grab a coffee with a bum (cinnamon roll for example, calls to take a "FIKA" in Swedish and it's a really cosy way to relax and see how the swedes do things.

The region offers many pubs and cafes, plus designer shops and second hand stores. It is a young neighborhood, less touristy, where you can enjoy to watch local life. On weekends you can take a good coffee and eat well at some foodtruck.

The neighborhood is filled with beautiful and elegant classical architecture. Sodermalm Saluhall is there. A must go for food.It is also excellent for shopping. There are the usual suspects (Prada, LV, etc), a great shopping centre called Mood Stockholm, there is a huge urban outfitters, skultana retailer (my favourite cufflink brand), NK, Svenskt Tenn, and huge variety of Swedish brand stores. There is also a theater, the Royal Stables and the Army Museum. A must go neighborhood. You havent visited Stockholm if you didn't go.

I was told that many young people live here which happened to be true. While you stroll down the streets you'll pass numerous cafes and restaurants, hair salons ( Swedish people do like their hair ), vintage boutiques, book stores, galleries, old record stores and lots of parks and green zones. Locals are loyal to mini flea market at Hornstull that pops up once a week. The atmosphere is urban but relaxed. Yet, although you'll not feel like a stranger, you won't be bothered with smalltalk either. Great for solo adventurers.
