Hiiumaa is such a haven of peace and tranquility that a visit needs no further justification. However, once you're there, it would be a missed opportunity to check out Kopu lighthouse. You'll need to be reasonably fit to climb the stairs - children should be supervised - and of course have a head for windy heights once you're at the top, but the views are great (Estonia being generally so flat makes it seem all the more impressive), and it really fires the imagination to think of the history of the building here. The cafe nearby serves very decent Estonian food, and there's a nice playground for smaller children too.

A second visit (previous in 2011). A combination of remembering the claustrophobia of the stairwell from the first visit and the proximity of heavy rainclouds that would have affected the view from the top, this time we chose to eat in the cafe.Astonishingly the food was a whole lot better than the prices indicated - with a low of 3€ and a high of 6€. The food bill for 5 came to 21€!The smoked cheese and vegetable soup was a new and delightful experience.

You have seen the rest, now see the best. An astonishingly over engineered and massive structure. The lighthouse has been in use for centuries and has been improved and strengthened over time. The entrance is very narrow and a little scary for those who are unsteady and the first stairs rise in a straight line at a steep angle to what seems to be a raised up entry lobby in which there is a good display about Baltic lighthouses. You then climb the square structure to the top and get a good but windy view of the island. The lighthouse covers a large arc across the island and, because of its range, it's a long way from the sea.It sits in a small park with a shop and café. Try the cloudberry ice cream (to die for) and the kids can play in the park while you sit in the sun.

It's one of the oldest lighthouses in the world, having been in continuous use since its completion in 1531. It's not hard to go to the top. But a view is amazing!

A worthwhile visit outstanding views from the top, there are a lot of stairs to climb,the site is rich in history well worth a visit

Маяки - то, что обязательно нужно увидеть на Хийумаа. Увидеть - и подняться! Внутри - довольно любопытный мини-"музей" со старыми фотографиями.

Старый Маяк, который раньше был крепостью... Вид просто завораживает. После подъема с утра ныли ноги :) Пока ехали на маяк со стороны Кассари - по дороге встретили всего 2 или 3 машины :) Удивило, что маяк стоит не на берегу. Под маяком - довольно милое кафе.

Обязательно съездите на маяк Кыпу, раз уж Вы добрались до Хийумаа.Довольно неожиданным и "ломающим стереотипы" обстоятельством является тот факт, что маяк расположен не на берегу. Он стоит в лесу на холме. И до северного и до южного берега маяк отделяет порядка 3 километров.Само строение маяка впечатляет своей монументальностью.Подъем наверх довольно непрост, но он стоит того. Сверху открываются интересные смотровые виды. Кроме того, приятно подставить лицо свежему морскому ветру.Если посмотреть на карту, то становится понятной и стратегическая значимость этого маяка. Он фактически открывает идущим из центральной Балтики кораблям путь в Финский залив.

Der Leuchtturm sehr sehr schön und es lohnt sich die Treppen in Angriff zu nehmen. Wenn das Wetter gut ist hat man eine tolle Aussicht.
