This museum was recommended to us while enjoying a wonderful lunch at the Crow's Nest in Cong, a lovely town also well worth a visit. Although I travel a fair amount, I am not a great tourist, preferring wandering about villages to museums. But I found this museum to be just tremendously interesting. The wonderful, caring and intelligent manner in which the historical material on the evolving lives of the Irish people was presented captured your interest and sparked your curiosity. What an exceptional place! Even the setting is compelling. I am very thankful for the kind recommendation to go there! I believe that you will be too!

Went half term with our boys aged 10 and 12, they really enjoyed the museum. Plenty of really good exhibits covering all aspects of country life. They particularly enjoyed the police and crime exhibition, we managed to hear a little of the talk which was very interesting. There is a nice coffee shop worth a visit as well. Grounds are lovely for a walk.

I just loved how its on a beautiful piece of land, an old country manor. Very well kept grounds with a lovely green house. The museum itself gives TONS of info on how our annestestors went about farming, fishing and cooking. I found it well layed out with great facility's. Kids and adults would love it!

Visited the museum on my way home. Very extensive, many exhibits and really interesting museum. It's great to learn more about our own history. The museum goes on for four floors. Would spend two hours here not more. Truly a great museum and the best thing is it's free

had a great time at this free museum which had 5 floors of really interesting stuff, the house is beautiful but you are only able to see 3 rooms which was disappointing as I would of loved to of seen the upstairs. but well worth a visit.

The museum offers a fascinating view of rural Ireland in by-gone years. Many other Heritage Centres throughout the country have bits and pieces put together on their special interest, but here everything is pulled together in a comprehensive way. It takes a lot of time and patient reading and viewing to see it all, but everyone would find something of interest to them. Our visit was lovely but it had a bad 'sting in the tail'. After viewing the museum we went to the Coffee Shop for something to eat and the prices of pastries, ie: the cookies, was highway robbery. Excuse the pun, but we left with a bad taste in our mouth.

This is a FREE hidden gem, the initial house I found disappointing as it consisted of just two rooms the public can access, but my disappointment was short lived when I went into the gallery, it's four floors filled with very informative historical artifacts that are excellently laid out, I am not one for history but found this fantastic, and the grounds are gorgeous to extend your trip if you're only visiting on a day out
