Watching the Ratusz Poznanski's goats butt heads when the clock strikes on the hour is only one of the highlights of the experience. The other is watching the people visiting the square too. Along this side of the square are the artists along one wall. The square is getting more compact due to the numerous restaurants having outdoor cafes, which is also great for people watching.

The town hall is not the biggest one in Poland but it's beautifully refurbished and feature Poland's well-known ramming somersaults that ram every day at 12:00PM. It has been build on the verge of 14th century. The legend says that after the fire in the town it has been decided to restore the town hall and install a new beautiful clock. Preparations were made, many well know people were to come to visit and feast the occasion. The cook prepared roast but he so much wanted to see the new clock that he left the roasting meat - it burned completely. When he came back and saw it he went to the meadow to bring two somersaults for the meal but when they realized something's wrong they run away to the town hall and started ramming in front of all gathered people. The cook was not punished for what he has done but the new clock was equipped with somersaults insted.

The Ratusz (former city hall) was a Renaissance builting designed by the Italian architect Quadro. Toward the end of WW2 it was nearly levelled by Allied bombing and Soviet artillery. What one sees today is a not very scrupulous reconstruction. But, still, it gives a decent flavour of what the building must once have been like. Inside, there is the museum of the City of Poznan, which is worth a visit. The clock tower features two mechanical goats that butt heads each noon. There is also a trumpeter who heralds midday. Most days a small crowd gathers just before the Ratusz at about 11:55 to listen to the trumpeter and watch the goats.
