Worth the half hour bus trip (only goes once an hour from the Music Academy). Amongst the trees, you get the feel of what it must have been like when the area was being attacked by Germans in the first battle of World War 2. Very informative display boards as you walk around.

If you like history you will like this. During summer months there are guides to take you round but as we went in March we had to do it on our own but it wasn't a problem. There was a QR reader so if you have the app on your phone you can hear the audio tour. Buses run right to it so transport isn't a problem. Worth a visit.

When in Gdansk, you should find yourself some time to visit this magical place. It's not that far from the city and easily reachable by car. Even buses go here, too. There's an open sky museum where you can see interesting pictures and read facts about the beginning of WW2. You'll also find bunkers, which are left in the same condition they were destroyed. It is truly an emotional place, at least to me, and I think everybody should see what was happening at this very place not-that-long ago.

Great experience visiting the site where WW2 started. The various buildings, most in ruins, spoke to the way things were in 1939. The monument is impressive. We just happened to be walking through while a veterans' organization was serving up Polish pea soup and rye bread from some old WW2 field kitchen equipment, which added a touch of realism. Combine this stop with a visit to the Post Office in Gdansk where some determined Polish postal workers held out against the Germans briefly, but bravely, before being overpowered and executed.

Took the Viking boat to Westerplatte which was very good. Good commentary also. they serve drink and food on this boat on the trip over and the staff are dressed in pirate gear also. This is definitely worth a visit if you are into your history and have your knowledge on world war 2. Give yourself enough time to be able to walk around the grounds there. A lot of ruins there still 9dont know how they are still standing. overall it is worth a visit interesting to learn more about the war between the pols and germans

The boat ride was lots of fun, complete with pirate theme and sea-shanty songs. I brought my dog with me and he had a ball! It was a quick trip to the westerplatte area, once there, there was not too much to see, but it was fun to walk along the water.

We took a boat trip here, on one of the 2 white and blue boats that set from from near the bridge at the bottom of Ul Dluga. We were hoping for a commentary on the trip to Westerplatte as we passed loads of sites of interest, and we got one. Unfortunately it was in Polish and I think it was a tape! We hoped maybe on the return we'd get one in English, but there wasn't one at all on the way back. When we went in October only one boat was operating, so you have the option of staying on board when you reach Westerplatte, as the boat only stops for officially 10 minutes, which is no time at all....or if you get off at Westerplatte you've then got 2 hours till the boat returns for you.Westerplatte itself is a site of historic importance, we spent 1 hour 40 minutes walking through Westerplatte reading all the boards, understanding the history and exploring the ruined barracks and visiting the monument. It's a do it yourself tour, we didn't see any guides dressed as soldiers at this time of year, maybe in the summer it's different. It is what it is...a site of historic importance... it is not a museum, but there are plenty of panels explaining the history of the site and it's place in history as the opening shots of WW2 were here. We enjoyed it and a 2 hour stay was the right length of time to explore and get the most out of it. If old bunkers are not your thing you can retreat to one of two bars near to where the boat docks. We liked the domed one.....cold beer but warm bar!

A visit to Westerplatte is a historic venue from World War II. We saw the first shot holes from WWII and the monument. Going by boat from the old city to Westerplatte is a nice trip

Took the river tram here and a bus back. This was a great way of seeing a lot on the journey. As the place where WW2 properly started the remains of the defences are a source of great interest, Everything is labelled in Polish and English and there are people dressed as troops from the period to give further information (entry is free) The memorial itself is very striking.

we visited Westerplatte as a part of our morning trip on the Motlava river. The young lady who gave the cometary was very knowledgeable and her talk was very interesting.
