This was an unexpected finding during our stay at nearby La Croix Avranchin. We visited shortly after the D Day celebrations, and the shop windows in St James still had decorations to commemorate the event. The cemetery is very well (and lovingly?) maintained, and a place of sombre beauty in which to pay respect to those young men who lost their lives. There is a display in the central monument that explains the history of the war and the American involvement in freeing France from Nazi control.

This is a small cemetery located about 30 minutes south of the Mont Saint Michel Monastery. It is worth a visit for those who care about such things, like honoring the American lives that were lost to free Europe from the Nazis. This is well off the beaten path, but it is a very beautiful place.

We had visited the cemetery near Omaha Beach a few years ago and I did not realize there was another one in St James. The visit was very moving, the respectful silence is amazing . There is a special feeling among the graves when you realize how young most of these people were. They all answered the call and basically saved the world. These places are beautifully kept and they never fail to bring a tear to my eye.

The American Battlefield Memorial Commission does a beautiful job in maintaining these sacred grounds

We visited the cemetery after it was recommened by people we were staying with. Our first experience of such a resting place, tranquil and immaculate and such a huge reminder of all the lifes lost during d day. Such a moving place, and even more so when the clock struck 12 and played all the national anthems and a hymn, 8 of us stood silent for the whole 12 or so minutes, most with tears in there eyes!!

If you are in the area paying your respects in the tranquil, immaculately tended memorial garden and chapel is a must. The Chapel itself has great stories and mosaics detailing the advances you can go up the tower from where the views of the local area are amazing.

Visited here with a group of motorcyclists, one of them from USA. We were on a tour of Normandy. This Cemetery brought home afresh to me the massive sacrifice of men from a distant land that came to europe to help us in our hour of need. Very thought provoking. Very impressed at how well it is all looked after.

In August 2014 my two sons and I visited the cemetery. We were greeted by Walter Benjamin who is the Superintendent of the Cemetery. The cemetery is extremely well done and pays tribute to those who gave the supreme sacrifice. There are 4410 crosses and Stars of David and 498 on the Wall of the Missing. Two Medal of Honor buried here. Twenty brothers buried side by side. On the front of the Chapel is a reading. "I HAVE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT, I HAVE FINISHED MY COURSE, I HAVE KEPT MY FAITH." A must visit.

Sad that so many young soldiers are laid there.but all credit to the Americans for keeping the memory of them Alive. The Chapel is perfect as is the grounds.

I have had the opportunity to visit several World War II cemeteries in Europe. Americans should be proud of the condition and the beauty of the final resting places for these heroes of DDay.Our government does not always show well in other countries, but this place made me proud to be an American.
