Come rain or shine, this place is not to be missed, and at €8 admission it's good value. It covers the history and development of the Vendee from pre-history to the modern day in several different and independent sections. Allow a good two hours. There adequate parking, a cafe, and good toilets. Most exhibits have english audio, and the audio-visuals are excellent.There's even a section for the toddlers to play and learn in.The reason for siting the museum here is that it's next door to the Memorial in honour of all those killed in the Vendee during the "cleansing" of the area during the Revolution.

This is worth a half day visit if you are staying in the Vendee. Basically it is a complex of historical settings taking you through the history of the Vendee from prehistoric times up to the current period. It is all set within the very modern architectural structure and the whole feels comfortable and welcoming. The historical periods covered cannot be explored in great detail but tend to be dealt with in an almost anecdotal way. This is a perfect approach for the ordinary non-specialist who simply wants to learn more about the area without the academic dryness often imposed in traditional museums. Periodic special exhibitions are included within the entrance charge.There are some entertaining features for young children as well; an excellent interactive room about agricultural production and a mock helicopter ride stand out as being particularly entertaining.Plentiful, easy parking. Good cafeteria facilities. Good gift and book shop. Reasonable entrance fees.

Interesting exhibits which feature special exhibitions from time to time in lovely surroundings and there is a pleasant on site cafe with very reasonably priced fare.

This place tells you all you need to know about the history of the Vendée. Very well set out and explained. A bit difficult for non french speakers or readers, not alot in other languages

Very nice area. Difficult to find the site itself and also very difficult to find the historical Chapel.Interesting site to learn something about a forgotten/unknown history.

We were all geared up for a ho-hum visit to the Historial. How wrong can you be? The historial is very far from being a static dusty old museum: the exhibits are well presented, the multimedia "shows" very well done and the whole thing made a bit of history come alive.

Riche et anime ce muse est tres ludique et plein de surprise en particulier le vol en helico au dessus des sites historiques de la vendee .

en famille avec des enfants de 4 à 15 ans, tout le monde s'est régalé et avons appris beaucoup de choses. une très belle muséographie. on y retournera avec plaisir sur une durée plus longue. Personnel très accueillant

Après-midi agréable à passer les jours de pluie pour mieux connaitre la Vendée depuis la préhistoire jusqu'à nos jours.La partie commencant avec les guerres de Vendée est bien sur la plus intéressante. Visites guidées gratuites certains jours. N'hésitez pas à vous renseigner sur les horaires sur le site Internet officiel.
