they have a fantastic selection of summer concerts here - held in the abbey and very cheap when compared with English concerts. Go in the tourist office to get details and to book. Explore the abbey and the local area - it is lovely.

Charming museum in the flour mill. it was a shame and typical of france that despite being a beautiful day, the only restaurant open was a pizzeria and they had no space left, so we had to leave before seeing the second museum.

Beautiful abbey well worth a visit.Lots of interesting history here. Guided tour recommended.Children can go back in time and wear costumes from the period of the abbey.

The Abbey at Nieuil sur l'Autise dates from the 11th century, and for a relatively small foundation (there were never more than about 25 Augustinian canons based here) it has quite a history - associations with Eleanor of Aquitaine (which put it under royal protection), ravaged in the wars of religion in the mid-16th century, and taken into care as a historic monument in 1862.It is still a working parish church, so you can go into the church at no cost - it's worth seeing the crazy angle on the main pillars in the nave. However, if you wish to visit the cloister and the rest of the complex the cost is 5 euros - I thought that reasonable for an informative 45 minute tour. I went with a French tour, but they will arrange an English-speaking guide if required. The free English-language guide book is basic but well-produced - few typos, and the English reads well. A lot of French tourist attractions could learn from this!As well as the cloister there is a chapter house, a chapel, the ruined remains of the refectory, and what was the dormitory. There is a small gallery of musical instruments, a series of touchscreens that allow visitors to see reenactments of what monastic life might have been like, and in a neighbouring villa there are similar film and computer presentations. A deal of thought has gone into this.Nieuil village is worth visiting - it's very pretty, and there is also a working watermill here (I didn't have time to stop). One other tip: if you keep your abbey ticket and go on to the abbey at Maillezais in the Marais Poitevin, you get a discount on your entry ticket there.

Cette abbaye est un petit bijou ! La scénographie est très bien conçue car interactive, accessible à tout les âges, et surtout elle respecte et met en valeur le bâtiment. le prix de l'entrée (5€ max) est vraiment dérisoire pour ce qu'il nous est permis de découvrir. Le cloître et l'église sont en parfait état, et la maison d'Aliénor est également agréable à visiter (chaque salle est intéressante et très bien faite). Bref, ce site est un centre historique et culturel à découvrir de toute urgence !

Magnifique, le musée à était crée intelligemment à visiter à tout âge.Chaque salle est différente, beaucoup d'explication mais pas répétitif, un voyage dans le temps assuré. C'est magique.

Très belle mise en valeur du site par la rénovation de l'Abbaye d'un point de vue architecture et conservation de l'existant. Musée interactif très bien conçu. Entrée 5€ (dérisoire par rapport la qualité du site et des informations fournies). Vaut le détour !
