Fab. I've been coming to Nantes since I was a young boy. I have always loved the Chateau. Amazingly well preserved and completely user friendly. Plentiful and clean toilet faacilities. The moat has such a wonderful aray of wild life it is lovely to see so many ducks and geese swimming on it. Does anyone know what the orange coloured ducks are? I never saw there there (or anywhere else) before.

Thank you for your message, after you visited the museum of the history of Nantes in the Château des ducs de Bretagne. It is true that the museum has been created in a modern way, with many interactive tools, to present the whole history of the city of Nantes. However, the restauration totally respects the monument. The spirit of the architecture of the 15th century is always very present and visible. Our guides are at your entire disposal to help you to discover this.See you again !

This was built as a residence for the Dukes of Brittany. This castle is huge and there are a lot of buildings on the inside that you can tour. Take a walk around the entire castle above the moat to take it all in and then enter the inside. The area around the castle seems to be a bit rough as there is a lot of graffiti and a number of ruffians. There was also a heavy police presence in the area, the most police we saw on a 16 day trip. There is food available in the neighborhood surrounding the castle. We parked in a parking garage about 4 blocks south of the castle. During rush hour, the traffic is horrible here.

Very easy to access, this castle is also free to visit (except museum). The inside, well designed and more "modern", is very different than the outside which look more medieval. This castle is a reminder of how powerful and independent Brittany used to be from France. It's a great 1h visit with children and they also provide group visit with a guide or audio guide.

While studying in Nantes we often spent time lounging outside the chateau walls with our books and cigarettes. I visited the town again this May and was delighted to walk around the very picturesque battlements again.

The chateau has a beautiful exterior and the visit inside is very well conceived gathering data about all the main events in Nantes that are important for the history of France. I really enjoyed it. Occasionally it has a multimedia sources. There is a cartoon at the end of the visit that revisits all the concepts related to Nantes, it is funny and imaginative.

My boyfriend and I visited the Chateau in October. The chateau from the outside is beautiful. We had a good time, but our only criticism was that it was too modernized inside. It is converted into a museum, but kept very little of the castle charm and inside at times you would not even know it was a castle. However, the learning experience was worth it. I would still recommend a visit.

Well worth a visit, interesting displays about the history of Nantes including links to the slave trade. Interactive displays and worksheets for children. Nice café too.
