Took the young children to the Four Solaire Du Monde as I anticipated they would be impressed, and can happily report that it DIDN'T fail to please.The Village itself is the World Heritage site so that alone is enough to pull you there and the Fortification etc is quite interesting .The oddest thing was finding the entrance to the Site of the Mirror/Furnace itself as is hidden (at least to me) inside the souvenir shop ! We shopped in it got out and went to Tourist Office asking for it and even that with the English kind of speaking guy explaining still took another asking from this other office nearby to tell us 'have to go through the shop' and of course purchase the ticket there too! My little son's French is fluent so he had no problem soaking up all the knowledge pouring out of this very pleasant French Girl. Luckily I had it all but my little girl was a bit lost as all was in French of course ! However she did understand enough to volunteer to perform the wood burning experiment by the Solar Heat and they were all impressed. Over all very inspiring for kids to visit and the Furnace is amazing. The verdict from my kids were ''This was a very nice and useful day out daddy'' so there you go !

Very interesting solar oven for kids and adults. All about sun, mirrors and heat!! I never new you could melt stone with mirrors and a bit of sun.

This site is an research center focusing on experimental solar energy. It includes a interesting, though basic museum (with English handout) and a film with an English version. The guide went out of his way to help me understand the site because I do not speak French (my partner who was with me speaks limited French). After the museum the guide showed us several experiments with the solar furnace. This site is incredibly unique and according to those present is the first and largest facility of this type in the world (and probably one of the only ones that can be toured).

La visite du four solaire est présentée de manière très pédagogique par la guide : elle explique aux petits comme aux grand le principe sur d'autres systèmes plus petits (un projecteur anti DCA, une réduction d'un four), puis le clou du spectacle est fonctionnement du four solaire, ou on nous montre le point focal ou il fait plusieurs milliers de degrés et ou une planche s'enflamme immédiatement. Elle explique l'historique du four, son utilisation actuelle : la cuisson de céramiques.Toute la famille (Parants et enfants de 4,4, et 8 ans) ont été intéressés par cette visite. Cette visite mérite un détour, et est à ne pas rater si vous êtes sur Mont-Louis.

Un moment super nous avons aimé les explications données par notre guide avec beaucoup de simplicité et de bonne humeur. C'est vraiment à faire car on comprend toute l'importance de l'énergie solaire. Les explications sont très claires et le personnel très sympathique.
