We live close by and this is an area we visit regularly and never fail to be amazed by its bueaty, for those wanting a gentle stroll the lake provides an easy walk whilst for the more adventurous you can climb Carlit or the Perics.

Took the opportunity to get out into the open air with a picnic by the lake. Be prepared to negotiate the stoney path and watch out for the cows. You will hear their bells before you see them!

Wild horses, lake and rivers parking and chalet where you can eat. Easy to drive up to the top in September. Lots of walk of various abilities to do. The car broke down at the top. Waited in the chalet with a drink and enjoyed the views while waiting for the recovery.

Our 4 thme walking around this beautiful location. About 12km from Mont Louis along a beautiful, but narrow in places, road that is not open all year round. Access to the lake is via navette in high season (29th June to 1st September). Parking is available lower down. From the 1st September the road is open and you can drive to the lake although parking is limited and you must not park on the grass areas. There is an information area where you can get details of the marked wlkes and the approximate times they take. The easy walk is to the lower lakes, towards the ski lift . It would only take about 20 minutes to get there. There are circular walks marked and some are harder than others. You do need propper walking boots as some parts are rocky and steep but there are water meadows and trout lakes on the other side that make the effort worthwhile. There was still pockets of ice in September 2013, more that the last 2 years we've seen up there despite the hot summer.Vultures were flying round more than we have ever seen up there. And in September you are likely to see lots of foals and calfs from the cows and horses that wander freely around the lakes. The hotel Les Bones Hores has a beautiful view from the outside tables. The food is great and the coffee fantastic value for money. Can't wait for next year!

My wife and I were having a drive around the mountains and stumbled across the car park for the lake. I read the notice board and it said it was a 3 hour 40 minute trek. We only had the afternoon! Just about to leave when we saw the shuttle bus. 5 euro each and we were at the top of the mountain. What views, what tranquility, what a wonderful place. Very keen to go back and do some walking. We just sat at the smart hotel and had a couple of drinks.

Lot of great walks around the lake. Easy to reach from Font-Romeu by chairlift, ONLY in summer time. Otherwise, you have to drive, and if too busy, you have to park on the bottom and take a shuttle. You have some awesome walks to do around

We had a great walk around the lakes and watched the wild horses posing for photographs. The lakes are in a beautiful setting and taking the ski lift to the start of the walk added to the amazing views and set the scene for the day. The only disappointment was that the oversimplified map does not offer any hint of the difficulty of the walks around the lakes. Definitely worth a visit. Next time might spend a night in one of the b&bs to make the most of two days walking.

Really enjoyed spending a day walking around the lake and relaxing. Bring your mosquito repellent!!Beautiful scenery took the teleski to get to the lake, another half hour walk and you are there. Very busy during the summer. Downside is that the teleski close during thunderstorm and this can shorten your visit unless you are prepared to walk up the hill - would need to be very fit!!

We loved visiting this lake after our first sleepless night at Villa Paulita as it was very relaxing and great fun for my kids (twins age 14, and little ones aged 4 and 1). We parked in a big free carpark (one of the most beautiful ones I've ever seen!) and took the bus up to the lake. We then walked over the bridge over the dam which was the first any of the kids had seen. My eldest son and daughter then went climbing over the mountains while my youngest explored the lower rocks towards the bottom with me looking at the beautiful wild flowers. We then all went to the area by the lake below the dam and looked at the cows. There was a big bull and some little calves as well. There were also lots of wild 'horsies' which my little girl adored. There were huge stones there that the big ones helped the little ones sit on and all the children were allowed to pet the horses. It was fantastic, an amazing day out, enjoyed by all. If you want to go higher up on the walk than my children did however, proper climbing gear is essential.

We were lucky to get to the lake, the last day you were allowed to go by your own car, all summer there will be bus schedules runningoften and with some stops. Bring a picnic and enjoy it at one of the meadows, it is beautiful.
