Toulon is not a big city and that's why I like going there and walking by the restaurants and shops in the harbor. The boats are beautiful to look at and I find it a peaceful place to be at, especially when it's sunny. If you're in town, walk through the market (every morning), and you'll end up by the harbor. If you turn right you'll walk to the Marine Museum. You can also take a boat to cross the Rade and go to the town accross the bay. It's all very enjoyable!

Our cruise ship arrived Toulon on a rainy day and so not too far we can go. Still on the boat from the cruise terminal to the city, we can have a good view of the harbor. I agreed with one review that it is particular interested to men if you like to see admiralty vessels. Not far from the waterfront, we went through the farmers' market and all the way into the city. I think it will be more beautiful if the weather is nice.

Entering the bay of Toulon by ship is very interesting for men I guess. With all the turns, the bay was easily defender from raids. The main promenade in front of the sea shore is named the Rade. Great to walk down. Cafes and restaurants. But I recommend a small store near the main dock area. They have brass and copper ship mementos. A brass telescope. Door knockers and neat things to remember a great trip. Men like these kind of things.Futher down the Rade is the maritime museum, but it wasn't really very good.I looked all over the mediterranean until I finally found the store with reasonable prices and great souvenirs of brass. Have a look at it.

This is well worth doing if you can catch a boat that's actually doing it at a convenient time. Even if the fleet is not in there is always plenty to see.Unfortunately, the boatmen tend to go out only when it suits themselves, or when they have group bookings. We ever managed to find one with a wait of less than four hours ,which is rather tedious. They cancel advertised departures at a moment's notice, too, if they haven't got enough passengers, so, really, you just have to be lucky.

The best view of toulon by far , over looks the harbour or rade as it is known in this part of the world , you can go by cable car or your own transport even a zoo at the top !! A few small restaurants though a little expensive compared to the rest of toulon but when you take into account the view !!! It's not bad

We spent a lovely sunny day in Toulon, when our cruise ship docked there. The city is bright, clean and easy to get around. We were there on a Saturday, so the whole main street through Toulon was a market. It went forever, and such interesting things to see. Lots of produce stands, but the sizes of their fruits and vegetables were amazing to see... big peppers, lemons, artichokes and lettuce all displayed so nicely. .There were lots of clothing booths, spices, fabrics, dishes (hand painted), art, and lots of food take away (Take out) booths too. We all really enjoyed it. We bought these French made and hand painted spice grinders for 6 euros each. They are adorable and easy to pack for home. They are really pretty. Lots of lavender soaps too.I bought a meter of fabric which was 3.90 euros - good price as we didn't see much in fabrics throughout our tripNone of the vendors were hounding you to buy buy like we experienced in other ports. Lots of locals here buying their produce with their little wheeled carts.Along the port frontage it is a very nice walk seeing all the boats, yachts, and lots of restaurants along the way - pricy but you are paying to sit, and the view of the water and sunshine is part of your bill.Beautiful port and a quick walk from the cruise port to the market...such a clean city to visit, I'll be back I am sure...

When in Toulon which is a wonderful place to visit don't miss the opportunity to take one of the water buses or tours out into the bay. A ferry to Saynes sur Mer costs only €2.00 and for that you get an entirely different perspective of the city. If naval vessels are your bag there is a flotilla on view including the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle from time to time and several others. All interesting if a bit sinister.Saynes, 15 minutes away, is worth a visit in its own right if just to sit in a café on its peaceful waterfront and look at the less expensive yachts on view. There is also a dedicated tour of the Rade including a commentary on its history which is certainly worth the cash and the time, but any of the ferries that ply the huge bay provide a wonderful day out as well as access to other natural as opposed to man made beaches.Toulon is built upon its naval presence and history. The highly mixed population is a wonderful testament to and legacy of its history. The Old Town with its car free streets leading down to the waterfront is largely intact and full of charm and interest. Other Riviera owns may be more glamorous of course but Toulon has a friendly, open atmosphere. It is a working city not overrun by hordes of tourists but as attractive for that as any other. It also has a list of lovely beaches a short bus ride away form the city centre where one can simply lie and soak up the sun looking out over an impossibly blue sea! Do go there but don't tell too many others about it!

Basically, when you say Toulon you mean Toulon harbor. This time I want to refer at Toulon city - a wonderful city. A city required to be visit slowly, without rushing, to freely admire the old buildings full of a particular flavour , to sit at a bar and have a conversation with the locals ... to visit the Eglise de la Port or Saint Mary De La Sed Cathedral ... believe me, you do not have that regret ... on the contrary, you will be won over by the charm of this city, old and new, also ...

Whenever we have outside visitors , we always make it a point to treat them to a half day tour of that military harbor on one of the boats which includes a nice meal on board as there are quite a numberofships to see, the environment is pleasant, and it is agood way to start a visit of Toulon and around.

The Cruise Ship, Royal Carribean, charges 18 Euros per person fro a round trip to the town of Toulon. You can easil y get a water taxi for 4 Euros per person for a round trip to the same destination. When you get off the ship there is a tourist information building that can direct you to where the water taxis are. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the taxi.In Toulon ther is an incredible outdoor market and lots of restaurants. Mt Feron farnicular was closed due to high winds.
