Started in the 12th century and expanded through the 18th century this cathedral is worth a quick stop while visiting the walled city. During 1944 the cathedral was hit by ordinance and much of its original structure (including the spire) was reduced to rubble. The cathedral was rebuilt and re-consecrated in 1971. A mosaic on the floor of the nave marks the spot where Jacques Cartier received a blessing from the bishop of St-Malo before his 'voyage of discovery' to Canada in 1535.

Well worth a visit for some tranquility after St Malo intra muros. Interesting design with the choir set lower than the nave, wonderful modern altar, throne, lecture etc, and beautiful light through modern stained glass windows.

Superb architecture, wonderfully restored with both old and new features. Excellent stained glass and interesting modern altar. Very peaceful.

Very interesting port town. With low tide you can have anice walt to a small fortress with spectacular views of the entire coastline

This is a 12th century church that was destroyed by bombs in August 1944. It took several years to restore. When you enter the door at the back, it is very dark. The light comes only from several picture stained glass windows high on the walls. As you move forwards you walk towards the light that comes through the modern multicoloured stained glass windows which reflect a kaleidoscope of colour on the white walls. The very modern metal altar table and chairs, contrast with the old dark wooden pulpit. The church is not an attractive looking building, but history is reflected in its architecture.

After spending four days in Saint-Malo, I've visited the cathedral just before my departure. That was a mistake! The cathedral is so beautiful that I wish I could have more time there and, probably, could have visited several times. It's quite big and you feel awed when you go inside. The huge windows giving soft warm light, beautiful decorations and the whole atmosphere are outright amazing. It really completes the atmosphere of the old town and, moreover, creates an important integral part of it.

Lively church that had to be largely rebuilt after the war. They have done a wonderful job as they have with the old town. You can see the changes in age of the church but it is lovely. The stain glass is very good but obviously and sadly not the original as the Germans destroyed it but the Americans added to the destruction anyway. Very sad and pointless but that is the tragedy of war.

This cathedral dominates the city. Inside there are many beautiful stained glass windows. The organ is up above Ne the cathedral hosts recitals.

Lovely stained glass windows. A welcome calm in the centre of St Malo. Worth a visit. Wander round and cool down on hot days. Pause for thought. Very tranquil.
