I would recommend all visitors to this part of Brittany to visit this lovely fishing port and in particular to spend some time watching the boats land their catch at 4.30 ish each day. Haliotika is a must to explain the story of the fishing industry and include a visit to the fish auction. It would have been more enjoyable to have an English speaking guide or an audio guide!

Well designed and absorbing. Wish the English audio gave more information and also that there was an English guide book. Lots of very interesting information and really made you think about and appreciate the fishing industry.

we visited the fishing museum during a rainy day on our holiday in Benodet, about a 40 minute drive. It was really interesting to learn the history of the local industry and to see all the different types of techniques used to catch different fish. Also watching the fresh catch getting unloaded on the jetty was good especially for our children for whom i think it is important to know where the food comes from before it gets to the supermarketyou can hire a English audio guide for 2 Euro's

This is a mixed bag - half the family loved and half hated. I loved it.The 'city of fish' is a large unloading factory where small fishing boats unload their catches. The unloading is at different times of the day for different types of catch. There is then an auction of the fish and you're able to view not only the (still twitching) fish but also see the prices, bidding etc.Not least is the interest of seeing the "workings" - the machinery, weighing, preparation, cleaning, bidding and despatch. We're so detached from this ordinarily that it's a real conversation-starter.DO CHECK BEFORE GOING the times of the auctions. Without this the visit's a bit of a damp squib. If you don't want to pay to look around then just hanging around on the viewing deck is fun - you can see the boats arrive and unload. After the auction there's the typical 15 year old "educational section". I was going to pan it, but in truth it's fascinating (eg seeing how dredge nets work, and the challenges of fish conservation). You won't think the same about your fish again if you take the time to look at even a small part of this.Next to the venue there are some good fresh fish shops that're worth sticking your nose into - lots and lots of live fish in tanks to look at before picking them to be your supper ;)I could go here every year (I've been three times), but the family have had enough now, so it's solo visits from now on :)

Bonne visite.
