This chateau is very beautiful and has a long history! Without further asking, we got a guided tour in English (very fluently and easy to understand)! The guide, who lives in the chateau, explained us how it looked in the14th and 15th century and showed us how it was altered since then. He gave us a very vivid impression how life was in this chateau. At the moment, the owners are renovating some parts of the place, so they take great care of it. Don't miss this very informative and interesting tour !

We waited in the shade for over 1 hour for the Chateau to open and we are pleased we did. We had an excellent English speaking guide who was very knowledgeable and had such a passion for the property and the restoration work being undertaken. The P & M emblems on the walls are fascinating and the marvels of what people find when they are restoring properties is so interesting.

Beautiful home - lived in - and the tour of most of the property is charmingly presented and very informative.

I would fully endorse the review by johnson6 below. The Chateau de Germolles may not offer the showy delights of the better-known chateaux of the Loire but a visit here will leave you with a much greater understanding of the society within which chateaux were built and how they were developed in response to change. Add in an appreciation of the finely-balanced judgments to be made when repairing, restoring and maintaining such an important historic building, all given by some-one with direct experience of making such decisions, and you have the ingredients for a truly memorable visit. We were also shown round by the co-manager whose English was perfect and who could not have been more courteous, informative and knowledgeable about every aspect of the chateau. This was possibly the best guided tour ever in our considerable experience of visiting castles and houses etc. open to the public in many different countries. There are elements in the house which are unique, such as the original late 14c wall paintings, and as such worth seeing in their own right, but you will come away having been given an invaluable insight into the preservation of part of French history in the 21st century.

We were guided round this chateau by one of the two co-managers (the other is a son of the owners) who spoke excellent English and gave us a comprehensive but never boring view of the chateau, its residents and its place in French history. He and his business partner do the archeological excavations themselves and plan - and in some cases personally carry out - the restoration work. It would be difficult to find a more knowledgeable and personally comitted guide anywhere in the world. If you are remotely interested in any aspect of history (buildings, political or social) then visit. On the downside this is not the most photogenic building nor are the grounds comparable with any of the great gardens in France. Nevertheless this is a scenically attractive area of France with great food and wine readily available to the tourist. There do not seem to be a great many visitors (yet) so experience it now.
