This fabulous church designed like a cathedral. but smaller has a fabulous mediaeval atmosphere because of the exquisite stained-glass, not all of it mediaeval but beautifully constructed in the 19th century. There is also a black Madonna. The church seems mainly famous for the gargoyles outside and the little owl but I was impressed by the atmosphere inside.

Especially the desig of the outside . Takes much time to see every detail. Primarely study of Gothic style recommended. Inside see the black Madonna. More information in the nearby tourist office.

If you visit Dijon even for a short time, you'll find this easily. The cathedral's front looks a little different from others. From the opposite its bell tower was not seen. So it looked like a square building from there. Entering, a beggar opens the door and asked us some money. It was not busy inside. Like the other cathedrals, the ceiling was high and it was a little bit cold.Sitting for a while to take a rest, we left without something special about the cathedral.

Following the sign on the road to finding out the little owl. A good exercise to work out before you are getting a glass of wonderful Bourgogne wine!

This cathedral has one of the rare 'black' virgins which isn't all that black really but interesting. If you look at the sculptures over the entrance to the cathedral you'll see all of the heads have been cut off during the French Revolution

In many respects even better than the cathedral, Notre Dame is easily Dijon's foremost Gothic church. The state of preservation is mind-blowing, reminding me more of Gothic revival than the original thing. Excellent stained glass and tracery, but then France cannot be beaten here

Although we didn't go inside, I was in gargoyle heaven photographing the fake gargoyles on the front facade. The Jaquemart has an amusing story that can be found in the Owl trail booklet.
