Nothing is as alluring as a dream set in stone, high above the Valley of the Loire, some 43 km from Blois. Saved from history's upheavals , this village nestles at the foot of an imposing fort whose ruins hang prettily from the chalky slope. But to see this haven's sun-kissed house fronts, one first has to cross the river across a 56 m, Gothic bridge supported by eight arches which invite you to wander down the picturesque, flowery lanes lined with tastefully restored medieval houses, leading to the castle promontory. Its a lovely climb, thereafter looking down on this old fiefdom. Angling and walking are the main attractions once you have exhausted the town's charms. If troglodytes excite you there is a goat path leading to 446 dwellings.

This is a true fortress castle, not a posh chateau. You can imagine the knights in armor and the battles that must have gone on here. It requires a good bit of walking to get around the ruins.The village of Lavardin is delightful. There are some very old houses in town and they are well maintained. The ancient church has interesting frescoes and there is a 16th century bridge. Across the bridge is a lovely picnic area under the willow trees. There are great views looking back at the castle and across the river at the restaurant.This is a classified "One of the Most Beautiful Villages of France" and worth the drive it takes to get here.There are several other villages nearby that also have ancient churches with frescoes.

Our visit to Larvardin was to lunch at Le Relais D'Antan but we decided to take a walk around the picturesque village after our meal and decided to explore the chateau. Although I should warn you, if you've come here expecting a typical Loire chateau you may get a shock. Lavardin is more castle than palace. This was a fortress built to defend and protect the village not to house royals in luxury! For a small fee of 3 Euros you can wonder around the relatively well preserved 1200 year old ruins with a map pointing to all the features. Well worth a look if you happen to be in the village!

I wouldn't make a trip here just for the castle, but if you're in Lavardin (one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France) you should visit the castle. The other attraction is the church with its frescoes.There's a 3-euro fee (as at July 2014) to visit the castle (no fee for the church).Once across the bridge (that replaces an earlier drawbridge over the moat no doubt) you are on a self-guided walk in the grounds. Count about a half-hour or so, depending on your style. The castle is a ruin, impressive when you attempt to picture what it would have looked like in the days of Henry II and Richard Lionheart, neither of whom managed to take the castle.Park down in the village and walk up the castle (an easy walk up the hill).

От замка осталось не много, но выглядит живописно и впечатляюще. Можно прогуляться и подняться на холм. Напротив стоит церковь - обязательно загляните, внутри очень интересные росписи.

Il domine la vallée, presque entièrement détruit par Henri IV qui remontait conquérir Paris, mais il impressionne toujours. 3 niveaux de défense et une situation sur un éperon rocheux qui l'a rendu longtemps inexpugnable. Jolie balade que je recommande. Un seul bémol : des nids de guêpe sur le chemin entre le 2ème et le 3ème niveau, qui me paraissent dangereux pour le public.

Et oui, il fallait le vouloir de trouver dans ce coin retiré du Loir Et Cher un petit village aussi joli où il fait bon vivre ! Son château qu'on voit de très loin dans la vallée est un des points positifs. L'Eglise aussi est à voir. Et si vous aimez marcher (avec de bonnes chaussures), gravir les pentes abruptes des petits chemins, je vous conseille de monter à la 'Rotte aux Biques' car du haut de ce point culminant, vous aurez une vue merveilleuse sur l'ensemble de Lavardin et de cette Vallée du Loir. Un très bon point aussi lors des 'Journées du Patrimoine" en Septembre, vous pourrez visiter des caves et autres habitations troglodytes.... intéressant (Y) à ne pas manquer ! N'hésitez pas non plus à entrer au petit musée qui se niche sous la Mairie vous comprendrez mieux l'existence du château et pourrez aussi déguster les bons produits de ce terroir français. Bref ! Que des bons points pour une journée culturelle enrichissante.

Après une randonnée pédestre autour de Lavardin visite de ce village classé " Plus beau village de France " bien fleuri et propreSitué au bord du Loir , avec une grande rue comportant de nombreuses très belles maisons.........sérénité et calme Château situé sur un promontoire offrant de très belles vues dégagées , entrée 3E Donjon impressionnant , reste des trois enceintes de fortifications et qqs salles souterraines......il vous sera remis un document papier.......manque un guide pour rendre vivant cette visite.........l'imagination doit compenser ce manqueÉglise Peintures murales remarquables sur tout le cœur et de nombreux chapiteaux grosse restauration en cour ( 592 000 E ) a ne pas douter bientôt l'ensemble sera remarquable et a elle seule l'église méritera le voyagePetit musée ( gratuit ) a coté de l'église intéressante présentation de fouilles et de plans du château. De quoi s'occuper un après midi entier Lavardin mérite amplement son classementTunnel avec porte blindée de St Rimay ( a 4 kms ) moment d'histoire lié a l'entrevue de Montoire sur le loir entre Pétain et Hitler..............attention il y y passe encore qqs trains...........

Prévoir des chaussures sportives car il y a trois chateaux en un dans ce chateau.... Lieu chargé d'histoire, dommage qu'il n'y ait pas de guide, on s'y perd un peu.... Le passage d'Henri IV en 1590 ne lui a pas porté chance (tours effondrées) et on retient son souffle devant le donjon (vestige de la salle où fut reçu Agnes Sorel vers 1447 ou 1448)... Bref, un lieu chargé d'histoire....
