This is a great day out for the family. Really fun treasure trail, with a great picnic spot in the middle. Lots of parking. They also have some tree houses where you can stay overnight.

The kids were really not looking forward to being dragged around a "boring castle" and we weren't looking forward to the moans. However, we all needn't have worried. An interactive and engaging few hours followed our arrival and great family fun. Highly recommended, a bit off the beaten track, but really worthwhile for all ages. Everything in English as well as French.

The site is beautiful and the activities for the children are great. Only one restaurant, and when it is closed there is a burger van which is selling great food. However, if you are not a fast food type of person, then you are stuck as there is not any other alternative and the wait is massive.

We visited this castle as a trip brake on our way from Tours to Bayonne. We were looking for some place to visit but not bore our 5 years-old daughter. The visit to the Chateau d'Usson was perfect for that purpose and it allowed us to move our legs and picnic right there too. There is a parking place right in front of the castle so you can leave your food there and take it when its time. During summer, there is a restaurant available in the castle. Remember to wear comfortable clothes and shoes as you'll be walking outdoors for a while. The castle itself is not comparable to those big and popular ones by the Loire river. Chateau d'Usson is small but beautiful with not huge gardens but a small forest to explore around. What makes this castle special is the treasure hunt game. This is a perfect game for young children but it also can make adults have a fun while exploring every corner of the castle grounds and the interior too.At the entrance the staff welcomed us and explained everything about the game. They spoke French and English. We were given the map where we should write the answers to every on of the 25 tasks. The map was only in French and although most of the questions can be easily answered, you may need a dictionary for some words. Along the hunt, there are explanatory posts written in French and English. At the end of the game you have to solve a final quiz and give the answer to someone from the staff. If you are right, you would be officially named musketeer and get your certificate.Although we loved the time we spent there, there are a few things that should be improved. All the property suffers a lack of maintenance. It looks like it is a lot of work to have such a place up kept and you can see they try hard and they love what they do but still you pay an entrance (not cheap) and want everything as good as possible. Another improving point is having the map in English too and maybe a printed paper with the texts along the way in other languages as German or Spanish. The castle itself needs some restoration is some areas and more decoration inside would be good. Last thing to make it even better for the kids would be that the staff member that gives you the musketeer certificate would be dress as a king or queen and make the nomination more ceremonious. All that said, I'd recommend this place for a 3 hours stop along the route through France if you have young children.

Very nice day, great for kids outside in the garden to solve all the puzzles, learn a little bit. The house itself is beautiful from the outside. Inside it is nice to see but not very impressive. My TomTom couldn't find it because there is no clear adress on the website mentioned. It is located just outside of the centre of Pons next to a local D-Road. When you leave the centre of Pons you will see some signs which you can follow. When you have mobile internet and you use google maps navigation it is getting you the right directions

Best for kids who can read, at least a bit (but adults will probably still need to help a bit), the castle grounds have been laid out as a treasure hunt themed around D'Artagnan and the Musketeers, giving the kids a few things to keep them occupied while the parents can enjoy the grounds and castle. Not the most glossy/professional of tours, but fun and kept us occupied for a good couple of hours, after which we had a pleasant lunch (not amazing, but definitely better than tourist fayre in the UK) in the shady courtyard while kids can play on the climbing frame to while away a bit more time and make lunch more leisurely.I liked the fact that it wasn't over-glossy/Disney eque, and although we went in the school summer holidays in August there were only a few other families there doing the tour at the same time, so it wasn't oppressively busy or rushed. In fact we were the only people in the souvenir shop afterwards which was well stocked with not unreasonably priced foam swords and musketeer helmets to keep the kids happy for a bit longer. We could have whiled away a lot longer if we'd felt like it, and there were benches for picnics for those who brought their own food, so it could easily be made into a full day's entertainment for the under 10s (plenty of grounds to run around in too).

Great fun for kids solving the musketeer-themed puzzles and roaming round the site in the sunshine. Although simple enough for littlies to answer, the challenges are diverse, imaginative, large-scale and well constructed. (Inputting the answers at the end was the only slightly tedious part due to shortage of available computers.) Nice little cafe for a break half way through, too.Well worth a visit. Children have subsequently become addicted to the "Dogtanion and the 3 Muskehounds" cartoon I inadvertently exposed them to via the internet, having had their interest in the musketeers raised by this quiz-trail....but fortunately the series DVDs are now widely available :-)

Brilliant day out for everyone in the family - lots of little puzzles to solve, in the grounds of a beautiful small chateau - we've lived locallly for 7 years and our girls (now 10 & 13) have wanted to go back each year.
