Hadn't expected to come here but our hosts at the Manoir de Manantie suggested it and so we took their advice. There are many different chateaux, and sometimes it feels like you've been before, but Aulteribe truly has a remarkable collection of furnishings as though they're still being lived in (almost) and with the guided tour, it's just a stunning way to learn about the style and culture that makes France so wonderful to visit. This is not just another chateau. If you're driving nearby, take the time to stop.

The Château d'Aulteribe is located in the Puy-de-Dôme département of the Auvergne in central France. Constructed in the Moyen Âge (middle ages), it was bequeathed to the state by its last owner in 1954 and is listed as a monument historique.For a €7,50 entry fee you can visit the interior, which is presented in the style of the home ofa (very wealthy) early twentieth-century collector of furniture and curiosities. We had a guide who didn't speak english, but with the aid of the written guide we were able to make do.The exterior is fairytale castle perfect, with its stone bartizans (overhanging, wall-mounted turret projecting from the walls of medieval fortifications from the early 14th century up to the 16th century) and turret roofs. You could almost imagine Persinette (the French heroine of the fairytale by Charlotte-Rose de la Force which inspired Rapunzel) imprisoned in the tower...Worth a look if you're in the area - even if you don't visit the inside of the Château itself. (The grounds are free.)

Très beau chateau, très bien entretenu, mobilier de l'époque et certaines portraits sont des originaux. Un grand meric pour la guide qui connait très bien le chateau et l'histoire. A visiter !

Il est possible de profiter du lieu sans visiter le chateau car il y a un point de départ pour une randonnée. le chateau est très bien meublé, la guide très sympa.

Le château d'Aulteribe est une belle découverte ! Ce petit château est situé dans un parc très bien entretenu où il est très agréable de se promener. La visite guidée était aussi très intéressante et nous a bien fait découvrir les belles collections de ce monument. Super !

Le château d'Aultribe vaut vraiment le détour, très bon état de conservation, château entièrement meublé, guides très pro et maîtrisant le sujet, très beau site. Les tarifs sont intéressants (7€ adultes), gratuits pour les enfants et moins de 26 ans). Visite à faire
