The chateau itself is really quite impressive and not at all expensive. What made it really special was the guided tour. Three guides, of about an hour and a half in duration. One was a soldier, giving information on how to defend the chateau and the types of arms used. One talked about the birds of prey used during the middle ages with an actual live show and lastly and for us best of all the guide who talked about the armoury and how to make chain mail. Each one was informative, educational and very witty. Lots of interactive nonsense for the kids. Very tongue in cheek and extremely warm and self knowing. A really great afternoon, even when the chateau closed the guides were outside in the car park still happily chatting away.

gives a good feeling how it used to be living here in medieval times!not for disabled or not sure footed persons!

A hike up to the summit with an impeccable view. A great historical tour with all the medieval fixings ( weapons, fashion, and archeological sites). Nice even in the cold of winter. Too bad the summers jousting shows are not available.

Very nice to visit, also for non-french speaking. We visited during one of the shows, that was the highlight of the visit. Don't foget to bring something to eat or drink because there was not a lot for sale.

Le chateau de Murol is well worth a visit if you are in the Auvergne region of France. While especially of interest to children and teens, it is worthwhile for adults as well. The only disadvantage is that the explanations of all of the activities are in French. The medieval show however requires no explanation.

We went there with the animated visit and that was just great! I would certainly recommend it to adults and kids

The chateau is situated at the top of a hill above Murol. It would be best to visit during the high season to take advantage of the pageantry and jousting that they conduct. When we visited in April it was simply a self guided tour of the ruin. The walk up led us past a catapult and all along the lower level on the approach we had stunning views over the surrounding countryside. In the main hall there were various coats of arms including that of Murol and the Lord's throne at the end. The next chamber had an impressive selection of weapons all of which were from around the 15th century. The tour passed by several rooms including the Lord's bedroom and the treasury room though these were sparsely furnished. The wax works models looked a little fake and probably could have been left out. At the top of the tower we enjoyed the ramparts walk again with wonderful views including towards Lac Chambon. Overall it was enjoyable but not as fullfilling as expected.
