Having read about this amazing road on Dangerous Roads .org I thought it was something not to miss. I can confirm the drive up this mountain pass is breathtakingly beautiful. Having read Dangerousroads.org article on here I left early in the morning of Friday the 26th December 2014 from Kranska Hora for the summit.Taking in spectacular views of the Triglav mountain range to my left I carefully manovered the cobble hairpin in my Peugeot hire car. There are several viewpoint cafes at various points. The Vršič Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1,611 m (5,285 ft) above the sea level, located across the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. The cobbles road to the summit is the highest road in the country. The road to reach the summit is known as Ruska cesta ("Russian Road"), renamed in July 2006 to honor the Russian prisoners of war that were forced to build it. The mountain road from Kranjska Gora (810m) across Vrisic (1,611m) to Log v Trenti (620m) spans 24 kilometres of 50 hairpin bends, 24 on the Kraniska Gora side and 26 on the Trenta side of the pass. Each turn is numbered.

It's a steep hill, great place to go cycling and when you reach the top the landscape is amazing! Or you can go by car...

A feel for the Alps with the Trails from here. beautiful scenery Wonderful hiking, extremely easy to follow trails, some which take you as high as you want and others that traverse the mountain ranges.

Great walk with our Saga walking party & incredible local guide, something we would never have done alone, but something we would not have missed for the world!

Unfortunately the weather was cloudy and rainy which eventually turned into foggy. But while we could see the views are quite stunning and we even had a traffic jam at the summit with a heard of sheep crossing the road, which was quite adorable. The road is very well maintained and not nearly as scary or difficult as I had imagined it.

We were on a cycling holiday and part of the reason for coming to Slovenia was to cycle the Vrsic. It's described as the "original" Alpe d'Huez with numbered bends, but with the added "attraction" of cobbles on most of the hairpins. It's a 30min to 2hr ride up the pass and on my first ride up on a sunny Saturday morning there were a LOT of cyclists, but fewer cars etc. At the top great views but if you're coming by car there is not a lot of room and you have to pay to park. There are some small cafe/shops selling drinks at the top and a few on the way up. The descent back to Kransjka is a bit of a bone shaker and had we had more time would like to have ridden the obvious route back via Italy and a great bike track, maybe next time.

In the car it is a very nice trip from either kranjska Gora or Trenta to vrsic. On a bicycle you have to wel trained or masochist. But on the cycle you have more time and opportunity to enjoy very nice views on te mountains, valleys in front and back of you. on the top of Vrsic you can even find snow in the middel of summer !

We travelled by bus to Vrsic to do a walk up to Sleme. What a superb spot! No one should go to Kranjska Gora and not take the trip to Vrsic!
